I did a quick search and didnt see any threads about this.

Has anyone had much experience with setting up their own video and playback at the range so you can get instant feedback?

When I was first learning to play golf I got a groupon deal for a swing evaluation and afterwards they talked me into signing up for  3 lessons that I could take at any time during a 3 month period. The only reason I really agreed to it was that they also allowed me unlimited access to their indoor facility during that 3 month period. They had 4 practice bays and as long as one wasnt in use by the instructors or other people practicing I could come in and use it as much as I wanted. They were never all full.  They had a great setup with a TV on a constant 5 second delay so you could watch your swing immediately after. It was also covered by a dry-erase sheet so you could draw setup lines and watch how your swing path changed throughout our swing.  You could also rewind and playback in slow motion.

I was thinking about how I could setup something similar for myself at the range. Could possibly use an iPad on stand for the video playback and hook it up to some small digital camera. Then cover it with some plastic sheet so I could draw lines on it.

Has anyone already done this? If so, what equipment did you use?

Here are some tips on filming your swing.

I am not sure about any stands for the Ipad or how to hook up a camera to an Ipad.

Instant? No. I record and play back almost immediately on the camera, though, all the time if that is what you mean.

Golftec has an awesome setup for instant video feedback. There is a mic on the floor that marks contact and you can push buttons on the floor to play, rewind, pause, etc. It shows you face on and down the line views on the same swing. The guy told me that it's a $14K setup. Unfortunately, I don't have that cash laying around. It was great to get instant feedback instead of recording, going home to analyze then heading back to the range days later to work on stuff.

I'm definitely interested to see if anyone comes up with something.

Tripod and a high fps P&S; or iPhone are all I need, it's not perfect, it's not instant, but it works.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
