Broadway prop master, good golfer, 2 strokes from advancing from USO locals, has what others describe as a spiritual/buddha approach to golf. Well, maybe I'll give his book a read at the bookstore, but I'm not sure it's for me. And his swing video on his website won't play for me (damn you Adobe Flash). :-(

Quote:
After devoting years to trying to master various approaches and methods, he vowed years ago to unclutter his mind and resolved to try to play the game effortlessly. After a long while, he realized he was breaking his own rule by imposing what he called an “effortless methodology” on himself.

For the past year, he said, he has been able to let his unconscious mind take over.

The result is what Mr. Pilipski describes as “peaceful golf,” a purer, more personal style of play, with less mental interference and tension. He is finishing a book about his approach.

“I’ve been truly swinging in a state of freedom for a little over a year now,” Mr. Pilipski said on Friday, as he smacked one soaring shot after another down the middle of the Chelsea Piers practice range. “I feel like an artist, like the club is a paintbrush and I’m just throwing shots out there. No two are the same.”

Other than the basic fight or flight response initiating from the need to survive, nothing in the realm of modern human entrapments, including golf (or golf swing), comes from the 'unconscious mind'.

The fellow probably has just developed a good repeatable swing and I am sure 'staying out of your own way' has great benefits in golf. But to say abandon all methods of guidance from day one.... well, I guess a strong 'you are doing all wrong' sells books...

Here's his swing. I couldn't get it to play without staggering, and it staggers in the middle of the swing. -1 for not using YouTube dude. :-P
