Hello,

So i picked up golf at about 3 yeras ago at 39hcp. I have always have a flat swing where i take the club a bit inside, flat shoulders, droping the hands inside and so on. Basically  a draw/hook or push draw hook. I have never had a slice problem with driver or irons. Now after 3 years and seen/played with 50+ people i have newer seen anyone with a draw/hook as the most common shotshape. Better players can draw but 50% of the shots go straight or fades. I don't think i ever seen a video where draw/hook has been the issue but just the solution, some parts of my swing tends to be seen as a "good player move".

Am i really the only one or just a very rare one?.

My current miss lately is an over draw. Has been with my irons since last year. Recently extended to my driver as well; not getting the big slice as much anymore. And I'm a lousy golfer, haha. So I suppose you're not alone. Most people who are high handicappers tend to miss right with a slice because the faults that cause it are really common for beginners without a good grasp of the golf swing. Considering how long I fought a slice and how hard it was go learn a draw, I still don't get too upset over an over draw / hook. I'm not happy about it, but it doesn't upset me like a slice does.

Well, you probably change your swing so you could draw the ball, i have had the draw/hook from atleast 39hcp. Is thera any high handicappers with a draw/hook?. My draw/hook is what all of yours fade/slice is. I remember that i had the same shot shape before i knew how my swing looked like.

I would say Most PGA Tour players hit a small draw. Wedges to short irons have very little curve. Long irons might have a few yards of draw.

There are some who hit fades as well though. It isn't like the golf world is devoid of good golfers who hit fades.

A big draw to a hook is not a very desirable shot. Maybe Bubba Watson is the only player who willingly hits a big curve. He's a complete golfing outlier.

I would say a draw is a better player's shot shape. I think some movements better players make tend towards helping produce a draw.

I think its easier to for golfers to come across the ball and hit a pull fade. It is certainly a more common swing movement for higher handicap players. Also the early release, flip, will cause the path to dive left as well. So most amateurs have a few things going against them when it comes to trying to hit a draw.

If you want to get a more neutral shape to your swing then I would look at starting a My Swing thread here,

Here are some tips of video taping your swing,

No way to really give you help with out seeing your swing.

You're not the only one but it is rare for a beginner to swing too far OUTward. Most beginners/higher handicappers fall into swinging down and left which is just an attempt to try and hit the ball solid.

I draw everything except the short irons. I often hit draws that cover half a fairway. Maybe better to call that a hook. Hard for me to slice these Ping K15 woods which is annoying at times.

I've alway had a baby draw with all my clubs. People seems to envy my shot shape. If I hit a fade, it's purely by accident. It rarely happens.

Same here, my home course is very draw friendly. People often say i have a nice draw. I see to much people that tryies to draw the ball with and OTT swing. I rarely hit a fade and have had/has troubles even getting the right curve with irons.

we seem to be very rare :-P .

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
