I don't draw traditionally the way u are supposed to, I set it up for a draw but I don't really close the face, I depend on the good old hand rotation for it.... How do u guys do the draw.

I hit a natural draw with my shot shape.

For me I set up square, with a slightly open clubface and just hit the ball. My swing is set up for a draw.

I wouldn't do a draw by hand rotation. That requires a ton of timing. Mostly you just want to create a consistent swing path from inside to out and let your innate ability to hit a draw. Swing path and clubface are very much instinctive.

I've heard that the path is instinctive, but how is the face instinctive? I can manipulate it by opening it and or closing it at set up can't I?

I find it can be a bit.

Like when I am practicing. I'll maybe do a swing where I don't do the downswing piece right. This causes the swing to be to far from the inside and I will hook the ball.

If I do the downswing piece right the next ball I tend to hit push cuts because I don't want to hook it so I leave the face more open the next time.

Doesn't really happen much on the course because of the time between golf shots.

I think that is why people who hit slices know to get the clubfaced closed to the target line, it helps start the ball left. They might not know the path is going left, but they know to get the clubface in this certain range so they can hit a functional shot.

I've seen guys hit 20-30 yard pull cuts all day long, automatic.

My swing is a natural fade and I can fade it about 15 yards left to right, I guess im just not confident enough on my setup for a draw but I can fade it on command damn near every time, but its slowly coming around my draw, I just like the distance it rolls out on+

For me it is all about path.  Try and come way inside on the range until you hook the ball.  The ball should start right (if you are a righty).  Then back off the inside path until you find a draw.

With that said, if you are an 8 index and the fade and distance are predictable why go for a draw with irons.  It is all about accuracy.

If you are trying to bend it around a tree that is another story.

I think distance with the driver is King and I would try to figure out how to draw the driver.  Going from a fade to a draw can get a club or more in distance.

    • Idk but I would have to imagine that a putter that is aimed where you think it's aimed would be the most important aspect of a putter

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
