Russia, ISIS, North Korea, Iran, China won't fear Trump or any other POTUS we elect.  Their policy or ours won't change overnight because we elected a certain president.   What specific things can Trump do to make other countries respect/fear us?    What other candidates can do to make others respect/fear US?   Heck, they have to work with Senate, Congress, and public opinion to make any major decision.   So, all the BS that Trump has been spewing out is just that, BS.   E.g, build a border wall and Mexico pay for it?  Do you know what it will take to build a wall that long?  Buying land, env studies, securing budget, ... , it will take years before it can even be started.  Trump will be long gone by then.  How would Trump make Mexico pay?   Put a gun to Mexican president's or threaten him with lawsuit?   Even if we build a wall, that will stop immigrants?   Really?   People will find holes in walls, climb over it, dug tunnel below (refer to tunnels build on Israel/Palestine, Mexico/US, NK/SK, ...).     Human drive to make a living is far stronger than any man made barrier we put up.  Just ask UK or other EU countries being flooded with people escaping Syria, North Africa, ....   They are risking their lives to come across a sea.   Stop being naive and see Trump as who he is, a narcissist egomaniac who have been talking big without understanding what he is saying.

This is typical liberal defeatist thinking, the same kind that has held this country back for so long. We need a leader that cuts through this malaise and gets the American engine running again. I don't believe that is Trump but he's gaining traction. Gave a very good speech yesterday.

This is a great quiz. It's easy to guess, because Hillary has said some stuff that today might sound like a right-winger on gay marriage, and she was opposed to it, of course, in her disastrous 2008 campaign (even though we all mostly believe she wanted to come out in favor of it, but she was too cowardly politically because it was unpopular). And Trump has said many things over the years that people on the right would ascribe to socialists.  Keep that in mind, and you'll score 7 for 7. The quote on the gaming industry was a toss-up, but it sounded too feminine to be Trump.

My overall take is that while I like his "tune" (non-PC, his fight against elite opinion), I don't really like his lyrics (specific stands on many issues). Eventually, we'll all tire of his tune, and someone will highlight his lyrics and point out that he's mostly a crony capitalist sorta character, who is willing to ruthlessly play the game however he sees fit- mostly to his own advantage. We deserve better than Trump.

Wrong on both counts.   Despite what Fox Channel,Trump, and others have been saying, US is still a super power, dollar is the world's currency (despite EU & China's effort to take over currency supremacy), and US economy has outperformed most dev. nations post 2007-8.   Job market has recovered, and economy has improved in many parts of US.  Trump's "we lose to everyone"  rhetoric is IMO a "defeatist" thinking.    China just lowered the value of their currency two days in a row.   EU has not done so well.   Russia has a former KGB as a dictator, and their economy is suffering from the impact of sanctions.   US is still the best place to be.

We can go back and forth on this but I find virtually everything you said to be incorrect. Fox News is far from the only outlet I use to understand the world. Anyway, it's good to have disagreement, helps get to solutions.

In 2014 the US was behind Europe and China in GDP (Purchasing Power Parity).  China lowered the value of their currency to protect their native businesses from import products, by devaluing the yuan China makes it tougher for companies like Apple to compete in China.

The job market has not recovered, unemployment numbers do not factor in the hundreds of thousands of people who are no longer eligible to collect unemployment because they were on it for the maximum amount of time.

I agree, the US is still the best country to live in but we are losing economically and in education to name a few.

Actually the EU was only ahead of the USA. China was like 7,100,000 (in millions US dollars) behind the USA in 2014.

We are still the best by a very LARGE MARGIN. I don't care what the EU has done. You don't live in the EU you live in one of the countries. That's like saying, Croatia is much better to live in because the EU has a larger GDP than the USA, when they are 76th on the GDP list.

Yea, China fights dirty in how they bump up their economy with currency manipulation. They have have whole empty cities because they need to give their contractors work or they are screwed. They have a huge bubble in that sector that they are really fighting to keep from popping. They might hit a wall here in the near future.

I agree that the unemployment rates have been deflated a bit. It's slowly working it's way down, but not as the government says. The economy has not rebounded to were it was. I doubt it ever will. People were living beyond their means a lot more 15 years ago then they are now. They were able to buy houses they couldn't afford due to the Clinton's housing programs and the subsequent lack of federal regulation on the type of loans and how loans should be labelled allowing for bad loans to be lent out to people who couldn't not afford them.

The primary issue is all those workers are people who have very few skills besides being on an assembly line or making houses. There was no programs provided to get them retrained in other fields. They were stuck with no way to find any job that fit their skill sets.

Yea, we are not even close to being able to say we rebounded. The US Auto industry is a shadow of it's former self. The housing market is still down and may never grow like it use to. Though the stock market has rebounded, that is more to do with being able to shift away from toxic industries. To say the US has rebounded is a shortsighted statement.

You might have been looking at nominal GDP I specifically quoted GDP (PPP) .

Quote:
Comparisons using PPP are arguably more useful when assessing a nation's domestic market as well as the structure of its economy because PPP takes into account the relative cost of local goods, services and inflation rates of the country, rather than using international market exchange rates which may distort the real differences in per capita income. My point of this thread ... Trump's boastful statement about what he can make China do is just that, a boastful statement.   If anyone supporting Trump as POTUS believes he can, e.g, stop China from devaluing its currency, he is sadly mistaken.

No POTUS can, but by coordinating an effort with Europe, Canada and a few other smaller countries they can make it painful for China to do so.

True. Trust me, China does not want Trump to become president. He's been talking about them raping us for at least 5 years. He doesn't have all the answers at this point, no one does. But he recognizes where the problems are, is not afraid to call them out and is becoming a force because of it.

No one outside of US care about Trump.   Trump's name recognition stops at US.   Most outside of US either does not know who Trump is or knows him as that guy from a reality show.   If any country doesn't want Trump to be the POTUS, it's b/c they think it's silly for US, not b/c they fear Trump.

You underestimate. They sure know him in Scotland, they know him in Mexico and they know him well in China.

They don't know him as a serious candidate.   They know him as a buffoon.   Did you see the interviews done by CNN from various countries on Trump?   Trump was a joke to many, hated by  some (Mexicans), TV show host to others, and unknown to the rest.  I didn't see any saying, "yeah, we are afraid that Trump is going to make America fearful again."

Do you really expect CNN to shine a positive light on any GOP candidate?  CNN is more biased than Fox when it comes to reporting political news and events.

I view all media reports with grain of salt.  IMO, Fox & MSNBC are most biased - polar opposite.   They reflect (or fuel) the America divide we see.

CNN more biased than FOX - now that's laughable.  FOX is a 24 hour op-ed.  Don't get me wrong, CNN has a left bias, but nowhere near to the degree of FOX's right bias.

I'm not saying FOX isn't biased but they do bash their own, they overall are pro-LEO but they cover the stories of police brutality.  FOX covers all of the news with their own spin, but CNN and others just ignore news stories that don't fit into their agenda.   How much coverage did they give to Kathryn Steinle, the IRS scandal or Hillary's e-mail server?  I prefer spin over total censorship but in addition to watching FOX occasionally I do read the WSJ and local newspapers daily.  I personally hate all of the media as news shouldn't be politically aligned but unfortunately it is.
