Last night I declared I was playing a round for handicap purposes. I played holes 1 and 2 without issue. There was a backup on 3, so I bypassed the groups and skipped to 5 as I was a single and the course was clear from that point forward. Played 5 no problem. Then on 6 I hit my drive, couldn't find the ball, and on my way back to the tee to hit my 3rd shot the sirens went off for weather and my night was done. I am heading back out to the same course this evening with rain check in hand.

I have two questions:

1) For handicap rounds, can I skip holes like I did and come back to complete them at the end of the round? Would I be violating any rules by "jumping around" the course?

2) Secondly, how do I treat that shortened round for handicap purposes?  I was 3.5 holes in when the rain hit.  Do I just start over tonight and play a full round as if that one never happened? Do I play my round tonight leaving the scores for those 3 holes the same as yesterday, and teeing my 3rd shot on #6 as I was doing when the rain hit?

I am establishing an official handicap for the first time, I appreciate the help.

You must finish 7 holes for a 9 hole score. The remaining two holes are scored with par + HC.

You could play tonight like yesterday never happened.... practice. Or you could start at the point where you were when the sirens blew and finish the round from there.

    • Day 45 (16 Jun 24) -  Happy Father's Day all - got in a few swings with the clubs, focused on alignment for chipping and pitching.  For me if the target it 12noon, I need to have my feet somewhere around 11 for a solid dead on line pitch/chip.  Worked from about 5yds out to 25yds.  Worked through a series of clubs - 54, PW, 8i and 6i - noting flight patterns of each.
    • day 94. Realized I’m getting a little too handsy. Worked on getting the club into good places and much shorter, slower swings to learn the movement.
    • 16th was a bit of loss of concentration and 18th looked like a low percentage putt from get go. I thought he ran out of mental gas those last few holes.
    • Played a good round today in which other than butchering a recovery shot on 14th for a double bogey six it was a fairly non-eventful round with five bogeys and a birdie until an eagle on 18th courtesy of a season best 207 yard 4 iron to eight feet that I then drained. Love it when par 5s are downwind. Came home and recorded an unrehearsed video. Wasn't worth posting. Still looks the same - armsy/handsy. Will keep working.
