I've recently been wetting my whistle in the sports betting world, which is not a friendly world.  Draft Kings for golf is a fun way to put up small amounts of money and follow a team of golfers throughout.

I'm sure you all know what draft kings is, but use this thread to discuss lineups and what-not.

Here's my roster:

($50,000 limit)

1. Spieth        @ $12,000

2. Kuchar       @ $7,900

3. Z. Johnson @ $7,400

4. Walker @ $8,000

5. K. Na @ $6,800

6. Poulter       @ $7,900

$49,900

ps. the $3 mil league is free with promo code "HERD".  Also, I think they match your initial deposit if you are new to DK

Draftkings is an interesting concept for sure but I don't see any incentive for people to share their picks with other people betting on the same game. I wouldn't show my cards if I was playing poker. Doesn't more people making bad picks means more cash for those who make the right choice?

Ok true but seeing as there is 100k people in the league, its basically just a crap shoot anyway.  Thrught it would spark some conversation

agreed. DK Milly is a total crap-shoot: you gotta get all six guys to the weekend, and have the winner with at least one "sleeper" who is low-owned throughout the tourney.

Big Tourney leans:

Streb (look at his Strokes Gained) $6400

Matsuyama (guy is a cut-making machine) $8500

Walker (like Mats, guy makes cuts) $8000

Aiken (Euro Tour guy who will likely fly under the radar and is super-cheap) $6700

Big Tourney Fades:

Spieth - most expensive guy (limits mid-tier options) and will be highly owned

DJ - does play well in Majors, but ownership is going to be 35%+ is my guess

TW - hasn't shown enough this year to warrant the price ($8600)

Fleetwood - he IS a good play at his price...problem is that he's on everybody's "sleeper" radar. might work better in Cash Games

i'll probably throw two bullets in the Milly, and then three to four entries in some smaller tourneys. have a feeling H2H Cash Games will be soft, so will put a little money there as well.

Keep an eye on the weather forecast. If it looks like one side of the draw may get a big advantage, you may be able to get some good value with some guys. Too early right now because it changes, but by tomorrow pm they should have a better idea of what to will be like Thursday/Friday. As of now, the guys that tee off Early Thursday and Late Friday may get screwed. Look for a guy who may finish very early Friday, like Oosthuizen did in 2010....if the forecast doesn't change.

The forcast I saw, said Thursday afternoon gets the worse of it with rain. And Friday afternoon the wind never gets over 15 mph all day. So who knows.

According to The Golf Channel and the Weather Channel, Friday afternoon is going to be the worst. Friday morning guys may get some wind, but it's really start blowing hard for the guys that tee off after noon. It may actually get so bad Friday afternoon play could be suspended. It wouldn't surprise me. It's happened before at St. Andrews.

Fifeweather.co.UK, shoes no wind all day on Friday. I wonder why weather forecasts are showing such a difference.

That's weird. Yeah this is what is on weather.com

I agree that early Thurs tee times have a BIG advantage, if this weather report is accurate.

Random feeling Russell Knox is gonna go off, by the way. Dark horse city

The Thursday/Friday weather forecast is actually almost IDENTICAL to 2010. It's kinda eerie. Thursday morning that year started off with very light winds but picked up throughout the day to 15-20mph and got tougher on the Thursday afternoon guys. Friday morning there was rain early on and the wind slowly started to pick up as the day wore on and right at 7 am EST (noon over there), the sun came out and the winds started howling and blowing 40mph. In the end, the early Thursday/late Friday guys got shafted because even though they dodged a bullet Thursday, they got nailed hard on Friday. I'm afraid come Friday, it could be the same thing that the morning guys may get some wind, but nothing compared to the hurricane the afternoon guys will have to go through.

Milly ownership:

Rose - 7.5% (GREAT value here)

Fowler - 28.5% (ooof)

Mats - 21.8% (ooof)

Kisner - 14.0% (kinda high)

Berger - 1.7% (wow...could be fantastic)

Fleetwood - 16.1% (not great value)

I'm sitting in the $35 range.  GO ZJ

I'm sitting pretty with 184 points and $50.

Fleetwood - 24.5 (Hope he goes real low tomorrow)

Fowler - 14.5 (really expected a lot more out of him)

D. Johnson - 62 (cant complain with a first round 65)

Kisner - 17.5 (just make the cut and a push on the weekend)

Kuchar - 20 (same as above)

Streb - (saw some stats on him right before the players locked and grabbed him...pretty decent pickup for only 11.9% ownership)

Tell ya, Been playing a few months now. Got one win and lots of 50$ payouts. What you have today can turn quickly. I have 189 and only bad player is even par. Weisberg... ZJ, M jones, K NA, OOOOThesuien, Speith... All you have to do is lose one to the cut and most likely your out of the money in these major tours. I do really well in the 27$... I played 9 this time and most have Joost on them, bad pick...

Here is the other thing I noticed. When you start looking at the score board you say to yourself (yep, I liked him, and him, and him and I think I have him on one team. Go and look and notta)... i HAVE STREB A COUPLE TIMES AND LIKED HIM, but think tomorrow he fades in the bad wind...

Did anyone think, yea, experience will win this and pick Goosen, Lawrie, Schwartzel ? Look for adam scott, and a few others to close the gap tomorrow...

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
