There is one record I feel Tiger will NEVER have a chance of breaking( I know I should never say never but please read on).He won't do it because Nelson won 11 'STRAIGHT' tourneys, meaning 11 weeks in a row.Tiger will never play 11 weeks in a row.never has and now being a new dad it just ain't gonna happen.Just for the record, I can only watch golf on t.v. with all the commercials and ridiculous 'brilliant shot' (some of you know who I mean) commentary........only when Tiger is playing.I'm just stating something I believe won't happen purely for reasons I've made clear!Cheers

I have to point out that Ben Hogan and many other fine golfers were serving in WW-II when Nelson had his amazing run. Now with Bush talking of WW-III and all that, all we have to check is whether TW has hemophilia.

What if El Tigre wins 11 tournaments that HE plays in a row, even if he takes weeks off in between? or 12? Does he get a record with an asterisk?

Tiger isn't even in the same ballpark with Mr. Nelson when it comes to sportsmanship and class. Mr. Nelson is perhaps the greatest gentleman the sport has ever seen. I wouldn't put 11 wins in a row past Tiger, but I seriously doubt that he'll ever break that hallowed mark. Mr. Nelson's streak is the equivalent of Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hit streak, it will probably never be broken.

Keep in mind, the fields Tiger is playing against is far stronger than the fields Nelson was playing. As has been pointed out, many of the folks who would have been able to stop Nelson were busy with World War II.

I don't think Nelson won 11 straight weeks...there was a 2 month break in there somewhere.

just checked history for 1945,found that Nelson actually won 12 straight but the purses had to be $3000.00 or more to be 'official' and the 12th. was only a $2500.00 purse. also found that Snead and Hogan were competing in every Nelson win. to me that doesn't make a weak field. Could not, however find any info about a 2 month break. If you know when please post Thanks,Cheers Flash

That is an article that shows the dates for Nelson's streak. It couldn't have been consecutive weeks with the dates given.

I don't know nearly as much about Nelson as I do about Tiger. But with all the charity work that he has done, I am surprised to see this statement. Kids in America and Thailand benefit much from Tiger. Currently on his website, there are pictures of his latest big fundraiser. . .

Are you inferring that his cursing on course puts him out of Nelsons "ballpark". Was Nelson a St. Francis with clubs, or what?

Where exactly did you read that Snead and Hogan were competing in every Nelson win? Please post links. Thanks.

Tiger don't need to break Nelsons' record. He already owns 46 more than him.he has nothing to prove.

I hope this doesn't come across sounding like a "Tiger Hater", but I don't think this is a record he could break.

There are times where it seems that Tiger enters tournaments with the focus being on fine tuning his game for an upcoming major more-so than going for the throat every weekend.

As he gets closer to Jacks record of 18 majors, I think we'll see less and less of Tiger in the "regular tournaments"....and when he DOES play, he'll be playing against a stronger field in the majors than anything Nelson played against.

The Memorial is Tiger's annual U.S. Open tune-up. He seems to win that one fairly frequently, no?
