For the sake of discussion...

I think that having a consistent start is important..

What is a start: It's the very first thing you do that starts the motion of the club..

Do you have one?

I do as everyone does, but it's probably what some would not considered a "start".  I just step into my stance, check my club face, maybe my grip, one last look at my target area,  and start my backswing.  That's it.  No forward press, and no waggles. Just get in there, and do the , deed. No matter the shot, or putt at hand. I have already done as much as I can before I step into my stance. For me any extra movement, is wasted movement once in my stance. It's my own "KISS" process. Been doing it like this for 45+ years, and it has served me quite well.

A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

It doesn't matter what your start is...it just matters that you have one and it produces a smooth move away from the ball...Plus it tends to clear your mind from bad thoughts...

Mine is the very very slight movement of my left hip...After 50+ years I don't know I'm even doing it but everyone says they can see it..But it gets everything moving smoothly and that's what it's for..

I don't know if I do or not.. What I do know is that I need to start forming a mechanism of sorts to regulate the initiation of my swing.. Sometimes I'm sure it takes me longer, and sometimes shorter to get going.. Standing over a ball for too long or too short probably doesn't help, what I think will help me is if I stand over the ball the same amount of time.. I think this will really help, especially since I want my body to know what to do without it almost being a surprise every time I start.. Like1,2 go.. Maybe I should do what ever it is I do, check my alignment, feel my posture, look at the target once or twice and then say 1,2 and then hit.. Or maybe that is just too much, who knows.

Some players employ a system of doing things from the point of removing the club from the bag to setting up to the ball... Many players make a slight move toward the target and immediately move back into their backswing..Jack for some time would firm up his grip to start the backswing...Anything you can do to develop something to let your body know it's time...It tends to calm your mind from bad thoughts also..But it needs to be the same thing always

    • Sorry, I will disagree. You got a penalty because you hit it somewhere and didn't want to play it from there. Bunkers are not the general area. If you had hit it into temporary water in the general area, you'd be entitled to relief. You hit it into a hazard, a bunker. Why should you get free relief when you hit it into a bunker? If someone else hit it into a different part of the bunker, without water, they'd not get a drop for free out of the bunker. Heck, it'd cost them two strokes if they didn't have an ACC and wanted to drop it out of the bunker.
    • I love golf, but we have some really dumb rules. Like this one, you get a penalty stroke because it rained.
    • No. If there was a place no closer to the hole that afforded some relief, you could have dropped there. If you were truly as far away from the hole as you could, in the "back" of the bunker, then… your options were basically to play it as it lies (lied? lay?) or take the penalty stroke and drop behind the bunker (keeping the point where the ball was between your drop and the hole).
    • Day 121 - Had a tournament today, not my best. I was hitting everything off the heel.
    • Day 4 (5 May 24) - mirror work focused on “feel of weight” transfer onto lead foot.  Continued work to develop trust in lead foot being able to handle full weight pressure…
