The lot is 32 paces from my property line (5 paces from side of house) to the woods....and... 23 paces from the front of my Altima to the brush in front of back fence Things to consider:

The HOA has designated this lot for "overflow" parking...as you can see my car and on occasion another car on the other end of the lot same distance from the road as mine
Nothing can be permanent, except maybe paint marks to gauge distance, mainly because it's not MY property and possibility of theft.
I cut the lot most of the time because the weeds/grass get tall between mowing by the HOA crew
Slight uphill slop from the side of my house right.
The 4-6 paces, inside of my property line is good plush grass, but the lot has a fair amount of small rock and hardpan balled spots
No one cares what I do in the lot, including the HOA.....just don't hit cars
Lastly , I have thought of a few ideas, but would like to see what the creative TST folks could think off :-) Thanks for any and all input!

Does the HOA mind if you take divots? That would be my first question. If they do, then use a piece of synthetic turf to hit off of for chips, and pitches to a mobile target, or targets. If they don't, then you would be repairing your divots, so piece of synthetic turf is still a good idea.

Can you plant some more grass to thicken it up, then mow it really low for putting green?  Perhaps a combo chip/pitch, and  putting practice area.

Would the HOA be willing to redesignate the area as chip/putt area for the neighborhood to use? If so they may even pay for it.

At the very least, I would out there daily hitting pitch shots to targets.

Agreed on pitching/chipping practice.

Something else to consider - if you have (or are willing to buy) a net and mat, the side of your house would be a perfect backdrop for filming your swing. If you use a stake or something to mark a standard camera position, you could even have fixed marks for reference (for Key #1 work, for example).

They wouldn't care about divots, if repaired but agree a chipping/hitting surface would be best. Planting more grass seeds, etc was a thought of mine for chipping, but never crossed my mind about a putting surface. And I like! I have no green thumb so any tips or advice on that would be greatly appreciated Another thing, that's genius, that never crossed my mind is talking with HOA about making the lot into a common area for the neighborhood. Only problem is that I see if that was brought up it wouldn't go far for golf related stuff. It would possibly peak their interest to throw out some swing sets, playground etc...which is not in my best interest being I have no kids and to be honest, it'd go to shit due to section 8 apartments close by. Thoughts on a net?? Thanks for the thoughts!

Love the net and backdrop for swing filming idea! Recommendations on good, but no super expensive, mat & net. Thanks Hardspoon!

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
