To give you my background.....I am 74 years old.....good shape...play 9 holes everyweek....shoot around 45 for the 9....I went to Golfsmith today looking for a longer driver to get more distance.....my driver now iss 44".....14*.....I was hitting a 45-3/4 " driver..on their simulator....was hitting the ball about the same distance as my driver now....my swing speed is 73......the guy there asked me what ball was I using...and its a pinnacle gold....he said i should use a lower compression ball....he recommended the Wilson duo at 29 compression....is he right?

If the guys slinging golf gear at Golfsmith were qualified to dispense advice they wouldn't be working a dead end retail job. For me which ball is all about how it feels coming off my clubs. No doubt my swing dynamics play a part but I don't overthink it. The best round I ever played I used a Titleist Velocity I found the day before, usually I play a premium tour ball. How I feel on any given day has the most impact. If I am fresh and my body is doing what I want it to a water logged range ball would work fine.

As for the Duo I hated that ball, sounds funny coming off the putter. Of the low compression balls I like the DT SoLo best.

I would recommend the callaway supersoft. Better feel off the putter, low compression, and has a high launch so should really help you get more distance. Its the only golf ball ive ever played that went drastically further than any of the others. Probably get 15 more yards with my fairway wood and probably 8-10 yards more on iron shots. I also think the short game performance is light years ahead of the pinnacle gold your playing now. That being said, golf balls are a preference thing and you should only play what your comfortable with. Id try a couple different balls and see if any of them fit your game better than your current ball. You never know!

One of their associates helped find and fix a flaw in my swing that kept me from giving up golf all together. And just cus its a dead end job doesnt mean there arnt some really talented people working there. Do what u love for a living and u never work a day in your life. Sometimes I think theyre the lucky ones.

First, I'd like to state that "74 years old and still shooting 45 with a SS of 73 is great!"

Wilson Duo is a really good ball. Not sure about the compression part, but I got some free samples from a Wilson Rep. The balls work great, and felt great. I'm planning on using them in the winter.

    • Feeling a tiny bit more upright, more width, and a slightly faster tempo. Still not enough confidence to bring a square face set up to the course but will get there one day. Interestingly, it didn't take this long to bring the driver square set up to the course. Its is like rehabbing my ankle all over again. Slow, painful and wanting for patience. I guess this is how you fill this bucket - one spoonful at a time.
