I struggle with my right wrist breaking down in the follow through portion of my stroke. While the claw has helped this, I actually would prefer to go back to a conventional grip. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a training aid for keeping the left wrist flat through the stroke?

Welcome to the forum @JoelK

I have not used an aid per se, but I do film my swing. Filming is a great way to see what you are actually doing versus what you think you feel. Others may chime in on a device, but I would still recommend filming.

As far as putting goes, I like to use the 1.5in Winn grips.  It makes it a lot harder to break the wrists using a fatty grip.  If you want to stick with a thinner grip, I also think about (for a righty) pushing a ball with the back side of my left hand as well as rolling a ball with my right hand at the same time.  To practice, it could be as simple as putting one handed.

P.s. If you get a fat grip, make sure it'll fit in the golf bag first... :-D

Thanks for the idea. I appreciate it

I do use a fat grip and it does help. And I think that tons of left and right hand only drills is probably the route I'll take. Thanks

If your wrists break down your arms are stopping after you hit the ball and the putter keeps going and then your wrists break down.

Are you using your shoulders at all you need to swing through the ball and the putter head needs to keep going and finish higher.

Try using a firmer grip and just hit a bunch of 2/3 foot putts, your wrists shouldn't break down, just swing through the ball don't stop, then after increase to 3./4 feet and so on, if your wrists break down at 5 feet go back to 3 feet.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
