I used to get too fast with my tempo, especially with the longer clubs. Two things that really helped me:

  1. Alternate clubs when you practice. Hit a driver, 9 iron, 3 iron, wedge, etc. With higher lofted clubs, I focus on accuracy over distance, so I tend to have a more controlled swing with them. Alternating clubs allows me to transfer this feeling to the longer clubs.
  2. Take a longer club than you're used to using for any given yardage. You'll learn to ease up a bit to hit it a little shorter than you're used to.

Hit to targets. Pick a target at the driving range that's about 120 yds. First hit it with your PW (possibly a full swing), then hit it with your 9 iron, then your 8 iron, then your 7 iron. Try to be as accurate as possible. Make sure you get your weight forward and accelerate through the shot.

Then try hitting 45 yd lob shots. This is great practice.
