Hey folks,

You seem like a helpful enough bunch! I play golf on occasion but I'm really starting to enjoy it more lately because I'm actually getting better. So I'm thinking of taking it more seriously now and trying to improve a lot more.

My problem is that I'm pretty good up until I reach the green. My putting is horrendous! I've looked around the web and got some basic tips, but I'm always looking for more. So if you guys can help me in anyway I'd be extremely grateful.

What tends to be your issue with putting? Distance, line, stroke? What kind of putter do you use?

The initial objective is to develop an easily reproducible stroke that rolls the ball straight. Don't make it more complicated than it is! Personally, I always use one ball and attack the holes from random locations when on the practice green, with the goal being to two putt from anywhere. My record is 27. However, if you like doing drills...do drills. If you like to putt 20 balls, do so. Whatever builds confidence.

At my house, I practiced on hitting a straight putt by placing an old credit card on flat ground, and rolling the ball through the center from various locations, varying ball speeds, noting alterations, and then made small adjustments until I could do it over, and over again.

The biggest thing for me was to closely monitor the stroke and memorize what I was doing. A more expanded version being to observe/develop 1. Grip 2. Stance 3. Alignment 4. How you take the club back 5. How you let it through.

Over a series of different practice sessions in 3 weeks time, I went from being a once thirteen three putter, and sabotaging my rounds...to a somewhat capable putter finally making those easy birdies. Trust me, with a little hard work you will blink and wonder "why the heck did I ever think this was hard?"
