Hi all

just a change I've made recently and my ball striking is unbelievable now please share your thoughts on is this a right move obviously it's consistent

I am taking my shoulders back fully in back swing, back facing target then keeping them there as I shift weight to left foot letting my arms drop straight down my shoulders naturally follow through with effortless whipping action I've never hit it so well. Is this the way I should be swinging club? it's working so well.

thanks so much for taking time to read my thoughts?

Well, it's good that you enjoy your ball striking, but. . .

What I consider good ball striking is someone taking an 9i hitting it about 100 feet in the air and landing softly 150 yards next to the target pin. You've really got to see good ball striking to believe it. Usually, the people doing it are plus handicaps or scratch. They are usually the club champions. Humbling to say the least.

Unbelievable would be like watching the best pro hitting the ball in a 10 yard circle ball after ball from 150 yards away. That would be unbelievably good to me.

Hi they are 100 feet high not as long as what you are saying but hitting my 8 iron effortlessly 155 yards with easy and very accurate I will post a video for you my friend, I think your thinking I'm just hitting these half decent scooped up irons I'm talking about trapping the ball and compressing it with beautiful Ballance full finish my thought was my swing has changed massive by dropping g my arms straight down into slot here is a pic of my 8 iron 714

Most of my irons look like that, I do not consider my shots to be examples anywhere close to good ball striking. Although, you do hit your 8i farther and higher than me. I only carry mine about 142 yards.

Still good distance 142 yards?but it's not all about distance i would rather have accurate shots over distance

im just saying my strike is much much better I can't feel anything through club and the noise on impact is great feels really good even my 7 6 irons are very high long, do you hold your shoulder turn and drop arms keeping turn back as you shift weight?

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Yeah, I agree that the shots should feel effortless on centered strikes you should not feel any resistance. That's cool! However, I would caution against stating it as "great ball striking".

Here's my 7i. I went downstairs to take a picture of my 8i instead took it of my 7i. I don't clean my clubs that often so there's a lot of crud built up from the course and the range. The dispersion is over at least 500 shots for the past 4 months or so. Not great, I know, but at least I get close to the sweet spot some of the time. . .

Also, I am still working on my embarrassingly bad swing. . .

If you are getting good results then you found what works for you. My own swing is unconventional, but I seem to be able to keep up with my competitors which tells me that at least I don't stink, but have plenty of room to improve.

Yeah, that's a definition thing. . .

My strikes towards the heel are probably the ones where I tried steepening the swing a bit the middle of last month. I also shank sometimes. Yup, really bad. . .

That's great that you're getting very good results with this thought! If you've been around golf a while, you'll know that a typical move or swing thought can lose its magic overnight.

Also, different people can feel the same move differently, and often what they feel like they are doing is not what they're really doing.

If you haven't already, post a video of your swing in the member swings area. Hopefully you'll get some useful feedback.

Thanks I've had consistent solid hits for a little while now so I sincerely hope it doesn't go over night I've been playing golf for 12 years I just wanted other people's feel of down swing as I've always struggled with out to in swing path trying to hit ball to hard swinging more with my shoulders thus throwing club out of plane causing a multitude of problems

This is what truly great ballstriking looks like on an iron.

Back on topic, I would say that, if you're hitting the ball better than ever, you're probably on the right track. If you post a "My Swing" video here though we would be able to provide a better critique of what you're doing so that you can take advantage of the wealth of knowledge on the site.

Yup, this is pretty "great". That and the fact that his club speed is considerably higher. . .

That and the 1000's of balls he hit in sandy, humid Florida might have something to do with it :-D

I try to distribute the wear on my irons equally all over the face and hosel.

    • As a supporter of the European team even though I chose to live in the US, this is kind of good news. I'm pretty close to Bethpage, but won't be going at these prices. Neither will the crazy drunk NY sports fans who would have made this a very difficult place to play as a Euro. The tickets will go to the city types who are entertaining clients and don't care about the money. Many of them are going to sit there and watch, not get all raucous. I am not dumb enough to believe that this is going to be like a Sunday afternoon stroll in the park for the Euros, but I think it will be significantly more subdued as a result of the prices. Even at $250 I would probably have been watching on the TV anyway so no real skin in the game.
