Well the highest I was this year was an 8.3 and the lowest was 7.6. Crappy putting my last six or so rounds got me to a 7.9 to end the season. There are no more revisions for my golf association. How did you guys do?

I started off slow this year, read some amazing books and really started playing the best golf of my life. Then tailed off at the end with a shaky putter, started experimenting with different putters and in the end I ended up using the same putter I began the season with. Its never the sword but always the swordsmen as they say. Today will probably be my last round of the year, (its starting to get real cold up here but today should be around 70) and I get to end the year at Bethpage Black. I cant wait.

20.9

I ended last year at 21.6, so a slight improvement. I started well, but that was mostly a result of joining a new club, so I started with a new handicap.

Well we are year round so no final revision, but from the beginning of the year until now I have gone from a 3.2 to a 0.0 and now I am a 0.1. A lot of practicing went into that drop.

This was my 1st year playing so it dropped a ridiculous amount.

Started around 25 or so (didn't have a handicap then, so its an estimate)
dropped to around an 11 (playing almost everyday in the spring helped a shitload)

it would of gone up at the end cuz i completely lost my swing, but I was only playing the same 9 holes over and over again for school.

Getting from a 3.2 to a 0.0, what do you think the difference was to get to that point? Im a 7.9 and I know I really need to putt better and be more consistent in giving myself birdie opportunities and I think I can make a nice stride in this game.

I took inventory of my game and saw there were basically three areas that had to improve.

1. Driving- I sprayed the ball way too much 2. Wedge play 100 yards in 3. Putting So I worked specifically on those three areas. I practiced a lot. I spent 7-10 hours a week just practicing, which for a guy with a day job is a bunch. And when I practiced I tried to make sure I spent more time on those three things. In the end it worked. I believe my driving improved most of all. I think it probably accounts for most of my drop in handicap. My wedges and putters improved slightly as well, but they weren't as bad to begin with. My suggestion for anyone trying to take those last strokes off the handicap is you have to play and practice regularly. If you cannot make that happen due to work or family or whatever then thats okay, being a single digit handicap is good enough. I have a job and lifestyle that affords me the time to work on my game, not everyone has that luxury.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
