Hybrid Update

I'd previously posted a topic about Ray Cook hybrids. I've since found an Adams that I absolutely love! 

I've changed my bag set-up to:

TM Driver

TM 4-Wood

Adams 2 Hybrid

I know the 4 wood and hybrid have similar lofts, but each has the benefits of the different lies.

Any similar set-ups?

I have a 5W and 3H that are similar, but the 3H is more versatile as I assume your 2H is as well. I won't try the 5W out of the rough.

Getting the right fairway wood and hybrid mix takes a little bit of thinking. Head design and shaft selection create quite a bit of options for modern golfers.

In fairway woods, the head designs range from tour to super game improvement. The tour head designs tend to have a higher, more forward Vertical Center of Gravity (VCoG). This tends to keep the ball lower, the "penetrating trajectory" you see in the ads. With a lower launching shaft, this combination helps people with high clubhead speed gain distance.

The SGI head tends to have lower and more rearward VCoG, which with a higher-launch shaft helps get the ball up higher. Also, low-profile heads help launch the ball higher.

Golfers with a fairly consistent swing can play around with the head and shaft combinations to see what gives them the best numbers.

For hybrids, you have similar things to consider. Also, the SGI hybrids tend to have more offset than the tour heads. This contributes to the left misses some hybrid avoiders complain about. Some players "in between" on clubhead speed may need a tour head (low offset) with a high-launch shaft to keep things productive.

As for me... I have played 4W + 7W for three seasons now. And, I have settled on a 4H as the bridge club. My old 4H had a closed face on it, with a 60-gram Rflex shaft. I started to have left misses this season. So, I switched to a square-face Cobra (see below) with a 75-gram Mflex (senior) shaft. I wouldn't have dreamed this up on my own, but the clubfitter set me up and showed me the numbers.

I sense my recent long club problems are these: Driver and hybrid(s) closed face, FWs square face. By this spring, all my long clubs will be square face. If all my misses go the same way, I can adjust the problem better. (Neither iron set has much offset in the heads.)

RBZ Stage 2 3W at 15 degrees and xhot hybrid at 16 seem close but the 3W is such a beast there's still a solid 15 yard gap (215-220 vs 200-205)

I have 9.5* Driver, 15* 3W, 21* 5W.  I have another 3W with a tall face I use off the tee if needed.  Can't get it off the turf very well.  Then comes the 4 iron.  I have a 23* 4H, but I'd rather keep the 4 iron instead.

Removed 4- and 5-iron from bag and replaced with 4- and 5-hybrids and glad I did.  Also have a 5- and 7-wood!  5-wood is the new 3-wood!
