Thought it was pretty funny, maybe because I can relate. When you suck at golf, the best you can do is make fun of yourself and just try to get better.

I don't believe it, because you are not allowed to carry enough balls to score that high?

I doubt that. I've heard committees will limit a person to one brand and model of golf ball for a round. I never heard they will limit how many you can carry. I think that is myth from Caddy Shack.

Here is the USGA rule.

Quote

Rule 5

Maximum number of Balls

Q. What is the maximum number of balls I can have in my bag or use during the stipulated round?

A. The Rules of Golf do not place a limit on the number of balls that can be carried or used during the round.

Also you can run out of golf balls and still play,

What if I run out of Golf Balls?

Q. If a player runs out of golf balls during a round, may he borrow a ball from another player?

A. Yes. There is nothing in the Rules of Golf that prohibits a player from borrowing a golf ball from an opponent or fellow-competitor. A player who runs out of balls may get a new supply from any source, provided he does not unduly delay play (Rule 6-7) in the process. Although golf balls are part of a player`s equipment, the only type of equipment that the Rules limit the borrowing of is clubs Rule 4-4(Decision 5-1/5)

Okay, I stand corrected. Let's say he hits 60 lateral then the total weight would be only 6 pounds, so it's totally possible. . .:-D

BTW, I knew I got that tidbit of information from somewhere. . .I thought it was from "Tin Cup" which I didn't actually watch in its entirety.

Division III golf is ugly, mostly because the teams are often scraped together from whoever at the shcool happens to own golf clubs. The schools technically aren't allowed to offer any scholarships for golf, but during my senior year I had a number of Division III coaches talk to me about all the scholarships I could earn that happened to specifically fit my exact circumstances...

The average scores in Division III are around the mid-80's, so the writer isn't as far off from the pack as if he was playing in Division II or I tournaments, in which case he'd be hopelessly left behind since the courses are set up much harder there as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the writer didn't even finish in last place at that tournament.
