I also have a bad habit of not looking at ball.  Which I know is so stupid I shouldn't even admit to it.  But I guess I'm looking at ball its Just on top of it instead of a spot behind it.  If nothing else positive comes from this forum......... I now know I have more than just a couple Fundamental faults with my swing

The typical answer is this: when the ball is teed up, you can swing up at it just a little bit. When the ball is teed up, your swing can bottom out before you get to the ball without taking a divot. When it's on the ground, that'll lead to chunks and thinned shots and all kinds of problems. So it's generally a symptom of not hitting down on the ball.

There could be a lot of reasons why you are not consistently finding the correct bottom point of your swing (i.e. your divot is not in front of the ball).  What you described is the symptom of your problem, it is not the actual swing fault though.  The suggestions in this thread may help you or maybe not.

The suggestion that will help you is this:

I would suggest posting a swing of yours in the MySwing forum, as there a lot of great golfers here that can assist with your issues a lot better than I can.

That's the only way for those that give advice can actually see the problem.

But what if I have 100 different swings? I'm inconsistent

If you video tape your swing a bunch of times you'll find you're swing is much more consistent than you think.  For example, if you sway back towards your back foot during your swing you'll find you do that every time.

A tee shot with and iron is different than a tee shot with a driver.  I tee up only 1/4 " max for irons and try to make the same swing as off a good lie on the turf.  The tee is there to give you a really good lie (ie margin of error).  Practice with a very low tee.

I do tee up a little more for my long irons when I'm using an iron off the tee on a par 4.  I make a flatter swing for more distance (less backspin and more roll).

On the range, I usually hit a small bucket before the round or a medium bucket when I'm not golfing.  I think you may be over swinging to get fatigued, although 200 balls is a lot.  Don't think I've ever hit that many in my life during one session.

    • Day 87 (27 Jul 25) - Made it an easy session with the wedge this afternoon, worked on staying in the shot and not lifting out - split between low spinners and higher floaters.
    • Shot my new low 72 (par 70) today. Had 5 birdies, also a new best, which included a hole out from the bunker on par 3 6th, and another hole out pitch from 15ish yards on the long par 4, 15th.  Got a couple of other good breaks. Except for an OB drive on 14th (and ensuing double bogey), not much went wrong. All in all I might have used up a year's worth of luck in a single day.
    • Back in the saddle after vacation.  Day 1: played 18. Did not have it, but still battled to an 82. Felt closer to a 90, but that’s fine.
    • Yes, I have seen this from the older crowd that play the 4,700 yard tees and want to know why they get less strokes from there. Always trying to game the system 🤣
    • Day 300 - 2025-07-27 Good 44-ball segment. GSPro was acting goofy, so I just put it on the Quad. Then I hit a bunch of low spinners. Hit 14° down to 9.8° down, with the average closer to 12.3° or so. Focused mostly on the backswing. Right knee good, hands roll up and out a little before laying off (FAR).
