So last weekend, I took my son out to play 18 holes at our local course. At the age of three I put him on the greens with me and he putted out all 18 holes. When he turned four, I put him out 25 yards or so off the fringe. Now he is seven and he tee's up at 180 to 200 on the par 4's and 5's. Par 3's he hits from the tee box. Hole #14, Par 3 121 yards Hole in One. Here is the article.

I know, I know... hehe. Actually he prefers to play with the Nike Platinum which he and I both play with. His grandfather gave him a Wilson Blackjack and because it's orange he liked the ball. I just bought him his fourth set of clubs. I picked up the Jack Nicklaus CD2 set and taking him to play on Sunday.

How great for you and your son! I have one son and another on the way. I am definitely taking your methods under advisement. Any other advice is WELCOME!

The most common advice I hear for getting kids into the game is "have fun!" I bet that hole in one was FUN!!!

How wonderful for you and your son! There are few experiences in life more satisfying for a parent than watching their child excell in some endeavor; there are few experiences more satisfying for a child than the one he can share with his parent. Sometimes all the stars align and life is really good! Congratulations.

Congrats to your son. I've never come close to a hole in one. Heck I've never seen someone hit one. I'm sure at some point I will see it happen though. That would have to be a huge thrill for the both of you. He probably wouldn't have picked a better friend to share the experience with.

The golf courses I play refuse to allow me to bring my daughter out as a "spectator". Do you actually pay for him to play when he was 3 and putting on the greens?

I've seen guys do this at resort courses. It's when you try to bring an adult that they ask questions.

I hate your son! hahaha, just playin'. It took me 18 years before I got my first. Its been 2 years now and I haven't been close since.

It does sound as though you've got him on a great system of progression with game.

Well, as everyone who plays golf... I've come close but never sank a hole-in-one...

Granted, I've been playing for less than four months, but for your son to hit one at age seven... man... that's awesome.

But I have to ask... does your son actually know what he did? Does he realize people play their whole lives without sinking a hole-in-one?

I'm very happy for you and your son, and not to take away from the achievement at all, by any means... but I'm wondering if it wouldn't have been more rewarding at a later time? (I'm a philosophy major... I over-analyze everything...)
