I've taken off my socks and shoes to hit a shot once before. It was during a club tournament, and my ball ended up stopping just inches from a water hazard that lined the left side of the fairway. Since I am right-handed, I had two options. Either try to make a left handed swing with the back of my club, or step into the lake and try to "baseball swing" it down the fairway. I chose the latter. The resulting shot was pretty poor, but at least I advanced the ball about 15-20 yards forward in the right direction. If nothing else, it gave the other members of my group a pretty good laugh.

After all that work of disrobing and standing out in the water, he hits it in a sand trap. I guess that's better than another sand trap.

Even at the pro level... I would think he might have been better off taking the drop and getting a pure strike at the green.

I've hit out of mud and water all the time.  Never have taken my pants off.  I mostly wear shorts except when it's cold.  When I take my shoes and socks off, I usually play the remainder of the hole barefoot to let them dry.

This summer, I hit a ball into a canal filled with mangroves.  I saw a ball just sitting on the mud.  Couldn't hit it, but when I went to pick it up, I caught my foot on a root, lost my balance and fell into the mud.  It wasn't just a few inches deep like I thought.  The mud almost went up to my waist.  I tried to catch myself, so my arms went into the mud up to my chest.  There I am, all you could see was my back and head above the mud,  White shorts of course.

It took a couple of minutes to work my way out of this bog.  My shoes were sucked off my feet, so I had to reach down to get them, which was past my shoulder.  So, when I finally made it out, I was covered in the most foul smelling sewer from my toes to my neck in the front.  I was clean from my back pocket to the top of my head in the back.  This was the 16th hole.  I didn't finish the hole, but I did get my hands clean to finish 17 and 18.

I'm glad no one took a picture of that.  One of the guys couldn't stop laughing the rest of the round.  I sat on a towel I had in my car on the way home.

PS, my ball had cleared the canal and was sitting just beyond in the rough.

I tried it once. Ended up a muddy mess. I'll just take my medicine and take the appropriate drop/ penalty. I don't have the game and I don't see myself practicing that shot. I have enough to work on
