I have made my highschools golf team. I started seriously working/playing golf about a month ago and played my first round ever in the summer and played a couple rounds after than but really started taking it seriously and playing it regularly a month ago and i really have a passion and love for the game. This year i made the team just by a hair and this years team was much easier to make than usual but i just had to share. The coach was talking to me and said straight out that im the 16th man (last man) on the team and said he understands i dont have much expierence and reccomended getting lessons, which im getting my first lesson tomorrow. I didnt even shoot that well but the coach thinks i have a ot of potential to be a great player and i really think i can be. If you made it this far please give me some pointers on highschool golf and what it was like thankyou for reading.

I didn't start playing til 5 years after high school so no anecdotes here.  Just a hearty congrats.  Keep working hard, if your coach saw the potential, I'm sure it's there.  Hard work and have fun.

Congrats! First, listen to your coach. He is trying to help you.  Second, try not to take in a lot of different advice from a bunch of people. That will confuse you. Determine what your weakness is and focus on improving that.

Congratulations. That's really cool. I hope it leads to a long and enjoyable golfing career. And if it doesn't, well you'll have a head start on most of us hobby players who start playing later on in life :-)

The most memorable part of my brief high school golf experience is how much cheating went on, at least within the intra-team rounds to determine the starting lineup.

I advise you to do your best to know and follow the rules of golf without exception. Your tournament scores will better match your expectations and you'll feel better about yourself too.

Have fun. It's great experience.

As the father of two high school players for 3 seasons now, I've been to many of their practices and this is what I've observed:

High school golf is more about playing for and against the team, and you get to compete against your team mates every time you practice. You should enjoy chipping/pitching balls into a bucket or see who can hit the back fence with the shortest club or hit flags at different distances the most number of times. Also, add some friendly wagers with your teammates to make every shot count. It is also a great place to try out different advice from your teammates, it's this interaction that creates a nice comradery. You help your team mates improve and at the same time they help you so you will all become better competitors. Even if the advice is not good, which it generally is reasonably good, just try it out. If it doesn't work, fine. One thing you should avoid is telling them that "My coach told me. . .". This will just isolate you from the team. Be friendly and competitive at the same time. Be part of the team.

That pretty much sums up the experience from my observations.

BTW, have fun. That's what I tell my kids.

EDIT: Cheating was mentioned above. That should be dealt with on a one to one basis without provoking the individual. Just ask as simple "Did you include the so and so shot you made on <blank>?" Or whatever. Don't put more pressure on your own team mates, just quietly ask in a nice manner. Also, don't make a big stink if your competing teams cheat or forget to add strokes either. You will be playing them for the next 4 years. Just quietly let your team captain and your own coach(s) know that you think there might have been cheating or strokes missed or rules broken somehow. Also, learn the rules, but don't be a rules fascist. That's pretty unpopular as well.
