Looking at PGA tour homepage and proximity to hole stats im guessing that it does not account for GIR or not.

Because the figure seemed quite high.

Does anyone know or can find the avg of proximity to hole when GIR for the pros?

I think you're right, and the PGA focuses on proximity from various ranges, and they don't care if it's in regulation or not. 56e6915e97b87_ScreenShot2016-03-14at6.24

As I think about it, their approach (no pun intended) makes good sense. It only matters how close they get it from various ranges. We can compare ourselves against that apple-apples.

I think proximity for GIR would be interesting, but not really apple-apples to compare ourselves with because we play such different courses.

I wouldn't gain anything from that comparison. Pros are precise and hitting it to the flag and often taking on trouble. It's pretty much the opposite of what I do. The flag for me is just a reference yardage and I am simply trying to hit the green anywhere on the green. Definitely not taking on any trouble and the 50% plus time I miss the green my goal isn't close to the hole as much as having a chance to get up and down without a hero shot.

Reason im looking at it becuase i have been starting to keep this statistic for myself as i think it could be a good sign if ballstriking is good or bad. Of course distance, pin position and like play a big part from round to round but i think i could decent idea over time. I tried one of the Strokes gained spreadsheet but it was a pain to fill in after every round.

I will just get my average of the last 10 rounds and try to improve it all the time! Should show up in the birdie column as well i hope!

GIR is the king of stats.

Proximity to the hole in general is a good stat. If your proximity to the hole is good and you are missing greens then you should adjust your aim ;)

But you could slightly alter your stats by calling "proximity" the distance from your ball to your actual target, not the hole itself, and then it could be closer to apples-apples.  Might be gala-Fuji or red delicious-honey crisp, but at least it's apples. :P

Yes GIR is king. But i feel the relation between GIR and proximity to hole/GIR would be very interesting. At the moment i dont have a baseline but will solve itself in couple of rounds when i have some data on my own game.

I think it probably is a wash. Sometimes you could end up 5 feet from the hole and be just off the green or on the fringe. You could be on the green 60 feet away. I am not certain this is really that important of a stat to look at.

Yes but over time i believe it could be interesting to see.

So back to my question. Is this data available somewhere? I'm guessing it is available in Every shot counts data but not presented?

    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
