When I buy my next set of clubs I want to get professionally fit.  Problem is, how do I find a professional fitter?  Places like Edwin Watts, Golfsmith, Golftec, etc. all have fitters that seem really knowledgeable and act like they really care about fitting you with the right clubs.  But when they give me their card it says Sales Associate.  Is there a way I can be assured of getting the right fit?

Thanks

A site you might want to start your search at "www.agcpgolf.com" could help you out.

I like the idea of a combo fitter/swing instructor, but those folks are few and far between.  If you find a fitter you like, don't be afraid to use quality components to build your set. They are just as good as the well known, big name brands.

If there is a "Club Champion" franchise facility near you, they are excellent.

The standard advice is "see your pro," but that isn't always good. Some pros in my area have great facilities and can do a nearly tour level fitting for anyone, while others have manufacturer's fitting carts only, don't have launch monitor access, have variable knowledge of things, etc.

I think it's best to go to the places where they have multiple brands of clubs available for testing and where they can fit different shafts to different heads, not JUST the OEM shafts a given manufacturer offers.

Club Champion is the only company I know of that does this, but I believe there are others.

There are LOTS of people that do fitting, in stores like Golfsmith and Dick's, but honestly I don't know how you can figure out who knows what they're doing and who doesn't.

You can try the manufacturer's websites, as they will have authorized fitting centers, which may funnel you to places that are better. Also the PGA Superstores have high end fitting, although again you never know about staffing.

@Patch has a good point there... also Dick's, Golf Galaxy, Golfsmith, et al... well they can do a dynamic fit, mostly will send your order to the manufacture, and they are drop shipped.

Though a lot of even good fitters will do this, for warranty purposes. The link that @Patch embedded is a good place to start.

    • Day 27 (7 Dec 25) - Got in a few swings with 9i and hard foam balls in backyard.  Setup weight fwd (rebuilt left foot really lets me feel the weight in a slightly painful way) - kept the backswing to around 9 o’clock focusing on contact and resulting divot pattern.  Like how the hard foam balls come off the face (almost like real balls in sound).  A good abbreviated session as I only able to hit about a dozen balls in the fading light.
    • Day 117 12-7 A bit of chipping practice today. Full swing- hit some real balls to see where Im at.
    • Not the part I was replying to: Handicaps did not go down much (like 0.14 on average IIRC?) when we went from 10/20*0.96 to 8/20. And a good chunk of that was from the +s.
    • I think he meant in the UK. The old system was completely different from the new one. 10/20 x 0.96 vs 8/20 would really only impact very low handicaps I think. The 0.96 serves to increase differentials for plus differentials, where 8/20 vs 10/20 works to lower differentials for all. I don't know many plus golfers who would be upset that their index got lower. A lot of really good players don't even really keep their handicaps up-to-date. They're much more interested in their WAGR rankings which get them entries to certain events.
    • Day 433 - 2025-12-07 Got some work in after Junior Elite before a night of sports (and the return of my wife!). Backswing work. Similar to what a lot of my juniors are doing.
