Under Armour reps wanted to know why Gary Woodland wasn't wearing UA underwear when he took off his pants to hit out of the water.  When told that he was, they told him that the next time he needs to go pants-less on the course to tuck his shirt into his underwear so people can see their logo on the waistband.

If I were in Woodland's place I don't think I could stop myself from blurting, "are you f***ing serious!?"

Just how much can companies like UA dictate things like this?  Will Woodland retaliate by going commando?  We'll find out the next time Woodland drops his pants on the course.

This is like when the refs would make my soccer team tuck in their shirts before the game during the checkout part. As soon as the whistle blew, they all un-tucked their shirts! Boys and girls. It was comical.

Now that you mention refs, I'm a little surprised that PGA Tour officials do not allow players to wear shorts but will allow players to take off their pants for some shots.

Ha!  Good point! What's the likelihood that John Daly wears SpongeBob underwear?spongebob.jpg?

He could at least keep it thematically correct  41O2sCCqWvL._UX342_.jpg

Gary should have told them to put the logo on the hem....

Haven't  read anything about the Woodland "incident", but Stenson did the same thing a while ago. He was fined for that

The article doesn't show the tone of the conversation, but if I was a betting man, I'd put money down that says the entire conversation was tongue-in-cheek.  I'm sure the reps were being facetious and having a laugh.

That's pretty much how I took it.  However, I have known some sales guys who would have been serious.

    • It’s winter here and time hitting at my indoor place.  This year I bought and sold a few sets so I didn’t settle in on anything. For this coming season, starting now I have a choice to make.  What set would you guys use? 1.  Nike Vapor Pro irons - They are like new, hit them some last year before I had to demo other sets.  I love them, original grips, barely used so I’m almost not wanting to use them to keep their value up.  Standard LLL and standard grips. 2. Taylormade P7TW irons - Still in the box.  Got them over a year ago but had too much to hit, never used them.  Have used a set in the past and loved them.  Ended up with my own set custom fit to me -1/4”, 1 degree flat midsize grips.  These are probably not as valuable because they are still available and they are fit to me. I hate to put the Nikes away but it makes more sense to save them than the TW’s…. I dunno….
    • Day 215 (3 Dec 24) - Another very chilly day - opted to work on easy pitches in the backyard. Worked thru the irons and wedges - focused on foot position and tempo.
    • Yes. I believe in using the same ball all of the time, including chipping and putting practice. I use the orange Callaway Supersoft.  Only $25 per dozen, and sometimes on sale for $20.
    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
