Number 44. Raleigh, North Carolina 06/29/2018. I didn't think I could do it with these two states, but I did. I played two states on the June 29. When I got to the course in Raleigh, River Ridge Golf Course, it was 5:15, I went in just to make a tee time for the next day. I was told I could play until 8:30, so since I was there, I went out and played. River Ridge is par 72, 6769 yards, slope 72.4/138, challenging course. The course was beautiful, in great condition, and the greens were the same speed on each hole. More courses should make the effort to set the speed consistently on each hole. It makes a big difference in our scores. I played thru one group on the second hole, and it was clear until number eight, when I caught a group of five.  I didn't play thru because I was playing well, and too often when I play thru I start to rush and hit bad shots. I stayed back and let the group move on. I thought about just playing the the front nine and moving on to Columbia, then I decided to move up to the tee one closer and play the back with just my irons. When I got to hole ten, there were two groups on the hole. I played hole ten with my irons and left for Columbia. I really enjoyed this nine and didn't want to ruin all the good images with bad shots by over playing. I took my 42 and left.

This continues to be one of my favorite threads to read anywhere on the internet.  It feels like being along for the adventure and every now and then, I have a question mid-post but it gets answered within the same post, like this:

Great writing and awesome trips so far.

Number 45. Columbia, South Carolina 06/30/2018. I Played Linrick Golf Course. from the back tees it's 6941 yards, slope 73.5/138. I played forward of that 6263 yards, slope 70.3/127. I didn't feel like taking on nearly 7000 yards. This course was similar to the last course in I played in North Carolina because they are part of the same region, hills, slopes, trees, water and greens. I started alone ahead of the other groups. I was caught by another solo golfer, David. I told him to play through because I was taking pictures and he was playing quickly. I soon caught him on the fourth hole and we played the round together. David was playing a practice round, preparing to take money from his friends the next day. We played well, for the most part, and David helped me navigate the course. This was another good quality course, and according to David, one of the best values in the area. The name (Lin Rick) is the combination of the two founders. Score 43-44 = 87.

Number 46. Atlanta, Georgia 06/30/2018. I played Wolf Creek Golf Course, my second state of the day. This course was long and tough from the back tees at 7069 yards, slope 73.2/143. Too tough for me, so I played forward 6656 yards, slope 71.2/138.  I had high hopes for this round, based on my morning round Linrick, but hope wasn't enough. I was missing fairways and the rough was no joke. I was playing alone, loosing balls, almost lost my putter by leaving it on the side of one of the greens. I made the turn and now I'm waiting on a group of three. Things were going so badly with my balls, that I chipped a ball in the hazard practicing on the tee box. I hit another ball in the hazard with a great 7 wood from the rough. On hole 15 I hit my last ball into the water on the right. Wolf Creek sent me on my way to Montgomery. No score to see.IMG_3799.thumb.JPG.0b67f2e1aa01020c28823e3774c5bfaf.JPGIMG_3801.thumb.JPG.426322bf22e2f64be9a14d768935d297.JPGIMG_3802.thumb.JPG.8c2c2a7cc3b1c94f921d9668e83b3d7f.JPGIMG_3808.thumb.JPG.403a4611a29250935849a0e467075495.JPGIMG_3813.thumb.JPG.7b5b05435314a74406ea23faa16efc94.JPG

Number 47. Montgomery, Alabama 07/01/2018. I played the Lagoon Park Golf Course, 6413 yards, slope 69.6/117. I needed a less challenging course after Wolf Creek in Atlanta. I played a nice easy round and kept the ball in play. 45-40, hope restored. The pictures will explain the name, Lagoon.

Number 48. Tallahassee, Florida 07/02/2018. The last capital on this road trip, I played the Hilaman Golf Course, 6304 yards, slope 70.7/123. This was a good round to to end the road trip on, to wind down as I head home. My game is better and even though I've just played golf in 25 states in 23 days, I'm ready to play more. A totally great experience the people and the places. Two states remaining, Hawaii, later this year, and Alaska next year. 43-43 for an 86. • The putting green itself is fine. It's the same green we have here. They just need to learn how to chip "into" the grain instead of just down-grain all the time. You have to hit it solid. The launch monitors and the simulator software are garbage right now. Nobody wants to say anything bad about the LMs because Tiger is a partial owner or something. The software has 3Ws stopping in ten feet on the green, and balls bouncing all of 11 yards after flying 311 in the fairways.
    • Explain this:   Send 3 and 4 pence we're going to a dance.
    • Although fun to watch on a winter night, I don't think the simulation is anywhere near accurate. Watched Kevin Kisner hit a shot onto a green slope that would not roll back. When they got to that spot, they couldn't place a ball there without it rolling down the hill. Had to move to another location. The greens remind me of the pooltable-like surface of a Mini Golf course. Balls just take off and roll away. Chipping from off the green seems tricky on the surface they use. And what's with Tiger spitting during the round? It's an indoor carpet. Don't know why atheletes need to spit outdoors, let alone on an indoor carpet surface.
    • Maybe this is what you were getting at?  Doing some math. Comparing JumboMax versus Tour Velvet, standard size in both.  I got the force required using the JumboMax grip, to achieve the same rotational acceleration as the Tour Velvet, is about 1.37 more for the JumboMax grip. Interestingly, the Jumbomax grip is about 17% larger than the Tour Velvet, and 17% lighter for the standard size. I just substituted out the radius and mass of the JumboMax as a ratio of the Tour Velvet's mass and radius. This allows me to cancel out the mass and radius and get a ratio for the force. If you need 100 (force units of your choice) to achieve a certain rotational acceleration, you will need 137 (force units of your choice).  There was another thread on the forum about offset, where it basically just delays closure by some stupidly small amount. A lot of fun math there.  Most golfers have to go from about 90 degrees open clubface at A4 to square at A7. So, having a grip that requires more force to close that clubface might not be the best idea pending the golf swing.  A question is, since the clubface is open at A4, and square at A7. Does that mean you want most of the closure to happen from A4 to let say A6, and not A6 to A7, for better consistently (less timing at impact). Just a thought.
    • This reminds me of the old game Telephone, where someone tells a story to someone, that person tells it to the next person, and after a few re-tellings you see how badly mangled the story gets.  Most golfers learn the rules in a similar fashion, learning from someone who really doesn't know the rules themselves.  This isn't really helped by the fact that many golf professionals aren't all that knowledgeable about the rules.  In addition, most golfers have been told that the Rules are SO complicated and SO difficult to read that they never try to read for themselves. Now, having vented a bit, is there anything in particular you'd like to read?
