The press wants eyeballs, ratings and page hits to get more expensive ad buys to make more money. They think they'll do this by hyping up whomever, or the group, that's hot. Make us think we're watching something extra phenomenal.

Here's the thing though. When Woods was on his run, for the most part, Woods' accomplishments lived up to the hype. He did things no one in the press imagined, things no one ever did before. The cut streak. The margins. The majors. The drama. The dominance. Ratings rocketed and stayed stratospheric as long as Woods was in the hunt. His opponents pretty much grudgingly admitted he was the alpha dog. The story wrote itself.

People have short memories of how dominant he was. He had double the OWGR points of the player in second place. Adam Scott said this himself. When the press compares any of the current top players to Woods, it's almost laughable, as much as I respect them, and the tougher fields they face. Instead of constant comparisons to Woods, the past, how about talking more about the players themselves and celebrating the present?
