Playing in a charity shamble this weekend. I was sitting with my 4some at the bar last night and explaining a "shamble" to one of our new guys in the group.

He asked a question "what happens if someone gets a hole in 1, does every score a 1"?

In the shamble format that seems like it would be along the "rules" of a "shamble".
Is that correct?

As a follow up, does that mean all 4 guys putting a 1 on their card all have to buy the club house a round?????

Everyone drives, pick best drive. Play individually from there then take the best hole score. Usually, people stop after the best person on that hole holes out.

Everyone gets a hole score and you write the best one on the bottom (like a 5th person). The final score is tallied up from that line***.

Bramble is another name for it. http://golf.about.com/od/golfterms/g/bldef_shamble.htm

The 1 would be the team score.

Yes.

If there is a Car that you can win, then only the person who aced gets it. So, I assume that the person who does the ace is the only one who needs to buy the drinks. :-)

True that! Played in a fund raising event last year that featured the "shamble" scoring format. There was no handicap checking, and the winning team ended up shooting something like a 47! HUH??????!!!!!! I tried to be honest about my handicap last year, and found out that that's not how these things work!

I've heard that we will be invited back to to play in the same event this year. Believe me, I will be a solid 36 handicapper, just like everyone else! Especially at this course. Despite it being a local county club, it is, by far, the hardest course I have ever played!

How a shamble is scored is based on the tournament organizer.  Usually it's best ball and everyone plays with their own handicaps. So if someone gets a 1, but doesn't get a stroke on that hole, other members of the team might score a net 0.

I've played 4-man 2 best ball, and 2 Man total score.  At my club a 4 man best ball shamble would require a 58 net or better to be in contention to win.
