Hello all, hope everyone is well? I'm new on the forum and was hoping to get some advice?

i played for a few years about 5 years ago and am trying to get back into the game. I am slicing the ball and leaving a divot showing an outside to in swing path, I apologise as I should think you see posts like this a lot but I've tried everything I can think of and even had a lesson which turned out to be a waste of money.

whays most frustrating is that I can take 20 practice swings and leave a nice line on the grass going inside to out, then as soon as I put a ball there I do the opposite. Thanks for any help you can give.

I've been Playing Golf for: 2-3 years
My current handicap index or average score is: unknown
My typical ball flight is: slice
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: I'm hitting out to in

Welcome to the forum @Joefree usually we like guys to participate in the forum before giving out swing advice. The idea being you contribute your ideas and thoughts before taking them from the community. In the spirit of helping out I will give you a first impression of something you can work on and then you can post around and then we can work on some more things.

I am very surprised to hear you had a lesson. Can you let me know what you worked on during that lesson? What was the instructors advice? Were you able to do what he asked and you were hitting it better at the lesson?

The first thing I notice is you open your club face to start the swing and leave it open throughout the swing. The only way to hit the ball even remotely close to where you want it to go is to swing outside to in. See Robert Rock, his face is square to the arc (we swing on an arc). Yours is open to that arc.

So you can start by working on that, post around the forum and then lets see the progress.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate what you're saying, but as you can see, I'm not in a good place with my golf at the moment so i dont feel like I have much of value to input haha. But I will definitely take your advice and try to contribute to the forum.

So, the lesson I had, he really just worked on getting a stronger grip and keeping my left leg soild. I guess there's that much going on he can't change everything at once.

I've noticed numerous faults with my swing that I didn't know I was doing just from watching my self.

I didn't pick up on what you pointed out though, so thankyou for your advice, I'll definitely work on that. My back swing in general is ugly!  Lots of work to do there.

Hi all, I’ve been struggling with my swing path since I started golf, I’ve had a lot of tuition, to no avail  I’ve actually lost faith in golf pros a little.

i don’t really know what to work on to fix my slice. Any advice would be appreciated  thanks

Merged into your older topic.

What are you doing to stop swinging so far to the left?

It looks like your lower body is contributing next to nothing.

Thank you for your reply.

I’ve tried all sorts, today I was working on my having a steeper shoulder angle (it became quite flat) and trying to swing the club out to 1 o’clock of the target line.

My last lesson I was told that my left hip was turning to much behind me, which was bringing the club head toward me through the impact area, (one of many reasons I’ve been told I have an in-to-out swing path) working on this has really stifled my lower body movement I think.

I'm not keen on any of those, to be honest.

The best thing you can do is this:

  1. Post good high-speed (slow motion) video from proper angles here.
  2. Post face-on and down-the-line.
  3. Listen to what someone shows you.
  4. Read this topic so you know how to practice.

I will get some good high speed footage.

I thing that topic is very good, I train people my self for a living so I understand the concept.  If I knew how to fix the problems I am having, I would implement a training strategy to  rectify them.

In golf, Its very hard and from my experience counter productive to try and blindly fix your swing faults without proper advice, which I am finding is very difficult to come by.

A lot of seasoned golfers seem to have a certain arrogance toward amateurs, like they were never in that position them selves.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention evolvr.com and the success many people have had with it.

    • Eh... what's he going to say? "Hey, I bought a new driver. It's 10 yards shorter and I hit twice as many OB now." Does he have any data to back up his claim? Or is he just going by what he saw at his fitting?  I've been using either Shotscope or Arccos since 2018 and if there's one thing I've learned is that it's the archer not the arrow. When I'm hitting the driver well, it goes far and straight. When I'm a mess, it's a mess.  If you were properly fit for a driver in the last (dare I say 10 years) 5 years for sure. I'd be surprised if you can get more than a couple of yards out of it by getting a new one. The COR rule has been 0.83 since 1998, with widespread and standardized enforcement since 2003. Obviously, the engineers can still optimize spin and launch and shaft flex and/or kick point. So there are things that can be done. But I believe the days of 10 or 15 yard gains are over... unless your current driver is unfit for you. (as @Typhoon92 mentions above.) If you were fit for your epic. You will likely see very little on course performance difference.  Having said that, I get a new driver every 2 or 3 years... Why? Because I like shiny things. So, if you want a new driver, get a new driver.
    • My suggestion to you is to take your driver with you and go to a golf store where you can hit the new Ping 440 AND your own driver side by side.  They you can decide.  Very simple test you can do for free. You have no idea ( and your friend probably doesn’t either) how old his old driver was, what loft it was compared to the new one, what shaft and flex he had in his old driver vs. the new one.
    • I might be inclined to try to figure out what is bothering them. Is it that their index is 12 but they're only getting 10 strokes? If that's the case then I think I would just point out that their handicap is being adjusted for the difference between par and the course rating. It's adjusting for this course being easier than typical for the par. Course rating being roughly what a scratch should shoot on a good day and par being the sum of the numbers on the card. The whole concoction (which Erik and Dave explained already) is simply a way to get everyone to play on an even playing field. So if everyone plays to their handicap, then they'll all have the same net score. The adjustments are there mainly for those instances where something more complicated is happening like playing different sets of tees, but still apply otherwise. It's also easiest to say "your handicap index is 12.4, which means you should shoot 10 over par to play to your handicap" rather than "your handicap index is 12.4, which means you should shoot 12.4 over the course rating after adjusting for the slope", which is a whole lot of gobbledygook to people who don't know how the system works.
