In my efforts to come up with a variety of different games to play this summer, my thoughts turned to playing a two-man scramble.

To make it interesting, I am considering to play for "Skins Only" both gross and net.

My thoughts on handicapping the event would be totaling the two players course handicap's, them give their team 25% of their total.

Any fractional totals would be rounded up.

As an example, two high handicap players with course hdc of a 14 & 18, would get 8 pops for Net Skins.

I myself think this format would be fair for all teams.

Suggestions or thoughts anyone?

Thanks

USGA has a formula.

Thanks, I've found this article - Since our event allows members to choose their teams, (No A & B) requirements, the A 35% & B 15% probably would not equate fairness to the field.

Section 9

Scramble and Skins Handicap Allowance

Q.  Does the USGA® have handicap allowance recommendations for a scramble or skins event?

A.  Visit Section 9-4 of "The USGA Handicap System" for handicap allowances recommended by the USGA Handicap Department. Since a scramble is not played under the Rules of Golf, it will not be found in the manual. However, this recommendation seems to work well for most groups, regardless of minimum number of drives required or other special conditions:

4-Person Scramble*: 20% A 15% B 10% C  5% D

2-Person Scramble*: 35% A 15% B

* Based on a percentage of Course Handicap™

The USGA does not have a formal recommendation for a skins event. A skins event closest resembles an individual stroke play competition so the committee may decide to use a full Course Handicap and let the player take strokes as they fall. With the dynamics of all handicaps that could compete, it is impossible to recommend a blanket allowance. Try experimenting with the allowance that works best among your group.

Please visit Section 9-4 of the USGA Handicap System manual for further reference.

I do not have experience running something like this.  Would you have two skins pots? How many teams and what would be the handicap range?  Most under 10 or over?  Any limit to the spread between team members or can a 0 team with a 24?  Any requirement to use a team member's drive "x" times?

We are having both skins with a $20 per man in the game.

No team handicap requirement and no "drive X times"

We most likely will have 24 - 30 players, maybe more.

With Gross and Net, teams could win one or the other, or both. They then split the winnings.

I'll post results after our event.

Two weeks ago, we had 56 players which had two gross skins and three net. One player won both the gross and net on his only birdie which was a very nice payday.
