Its super frustrating!! Theres all these simulators and the whole try before you buy but I cant hit a ball in a simulator to save my life. It makes me nuts!!!! How is one supposed to demo clubs when they can't hit it in the sim!?

I have no issue hitting full swing shots on a sim (I won't get into the ball flight laws issue), but any kind of finesse shot (pitch, chip, putt) leaves a whole lot to be desired. Half the time it doesn't register my shot and the other half it's just wrong. I dunno how many times my ball has struck the screen dead centre but the sim says I pulled/pushed/shanked. Very frustrating.

I've only hit full swings with mid irons and driver in a sim.  For me those are easier than on the course.  For one there is always a perfect and forgiving lie on a flat surface.  Second, it's easy to get into a driving range like groove.

I can't speak to wedges or partial swings.

I have also experienced that. For whatever reason I excel at wedges in the sim. Its my full swings that dont register. I hit it hard enough for it to be loud and for the ball to hit middle of the screen but it either doesnt register or it comes back with something like dead straight but 98 yards. I had demoed a 3 hybrid and got that particular distance. I hit my 56 degree wedge that far.

I often have near the same experience at the range. Only place I can hit a golf shot is on the golf course. It's ridiculous!! I mean come on, Im there, Im the one its happening to, Im present to witness it. It defies all logic!!!!! Has anyone else ever experienced such lop sided madness?!

    • My flop shots are 6-7° down (AoA). Does that answer it? 😄  The longer answer is… You have to be able to do both shots.
    • I hope you don't mind me raising this one from the dead. I got shortgamechef's video access thing for a few months in 2024. I watched his yip fix videos (the general gist is similar to the first video above, but with a lot more detail) and it made a lot of sense. I was working on it in my backyard off a mat for a while and my yippy thing was mostly gone. Aside from anything else, the flop shot using that technique is so easy and controllable. But I got onto a golf course for the first time of the year and found myself by the green on a downslope with the ball sitting down a little in the rough and I was, not to put too fine a point on it, f***ed. Shallow is all well and good from a good flat lie and I understand it, but you can't make that your be all and end all. I still don't know if it's a good idea to use steep all the time or just when you need to. I have a hard enough time with one technique, let alone too.  Just got a pitching skillest lesson with Erik and unless I misunderstood things some, he wants me a bit steeper. @iacas - where do you fall on the steep vs shallow argument and how do you vary it according to need?
