Hi all,

Was hoping I could get some advice/thoughts.

Been playing almost 2 years (17 handicap)..

I always seem to hit a wall though with all irons and go through a couple months of consistent shanks / mis hits. (Without exaggerating its like I am a beginner again) (

Going by the video i feel the error comes during my backswing - head and body come forward causing a shank.

Why does this happen and how can I eliminate this and return to consistent golf!?

When I slow the video down, I see a few things:  Number one, you are coming over the top.  Your hip turn looks really restricted (going back, and at transition), and I know when I fall into a funk hitting those types of shots, I find my hip turn has also gotten restricted.

Two, your plane is a flat (seen most easily when you are taking it back).  That'll tend to have you casting at it (it appears to me you very much are) and causing mishits towards the heel.

Personally, in a practice setting, I'd square up my stance a bit and work on getting a better hip turn to help you drop it in from the inside instead of casting.  Certainly getting that plane up would help.

Just a casual viewer's opinion, here...certainly not a pro, so hopefully a solid player can jump in here and perhaps provide a little better help.

Thanks for the reply.

I certainly agree about the flatness of the backswing.

I don't think I am coming over the top though.

My aim is to figure out what is making me come forward and hit nearer the heel of the club as opposed to the centre.

something is causing it and I think it's during the backswing where it goes wrong.

thanks!

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
