My eldest son wants to come an play golf with Daddy so i said i would start to get him some clubs.

He's 3 years old but tall for his age (in 4-5 year old clothes), very bright and picks things up so fast its scary!.

He already has a putter and a SW from Dunlops 3-5 yr old range but im looking at getting him a few more.

Im taking him to the range starting next year so i want him to enjoy just whacking balls so want something he will be able to hit ok. Would you guys stick with a few more irons or would the hybrid be a good shout?

Driver may be a bit premature but he has a nice little swing already.

Maybe a seven iron. He will be growing fast. You may just want to cut down a used club(s) for the time being.

My son started at 5 and I was lucky to find a cheap set for him at a yard sale.  He used them for a couple years and then I bought him a new kids set when he was too big for those.  The new set wasn't too bad either as it was $45 and he was glowing because it was new, shiny, matched Dad's set... even had a driver cover.

He grew out of those and is now playing my Eye2's.  I gave his old sets to friends who had kids that wanted to try golf so all is good with the Golfing Gods.

If you have no luck with used at a yard sale or can't fine a decent new set for him, see what you can find at your local course in the used pile.  My course has a bag full of old clubs that were never picked up by the owner.  They all go for $5!  If you grab a 5, 7 & 9 he then has a decent start and you can cut them down to fit and I am sure he would be a happy camper.  Good luck to you and I hope he gets into it.  Nothing is more fun that playing 9 with your son on a nice summer day.  My son and I usually get out together around 6 - 10 times in the summer.  I take pics, video his swing and we have a blast after looking at the pics and videos.  Memories that last forever!!!!

Thanks both. Yep, the plan is to get him into it so we get the father-son quality time. That is until he starts beating me, after that i'll ask his uncle to get him into cricket :-D

My children (ages 5 & 7) both have sets by US Kids Golf, and they're very nice.  Not sure on the availability over on your side of the Atlantic though.

The below is probably more helpful to your question...

I should have also stated the 5 yr old's set has a putter, 9i, hybrid/fw.  She struggles a little with the hybrid/fw (but she is small for her age).

My older child's set is a putter, pw, 7i, fw.  They all work out great for her.

Maybe start with what he already has... and add on as you see it making sense.
