@Lihu, Thats a good Idea. I was thinking about doing the same thing people do with chipping. But I don't think that I am going to be able to unless I find an open field and a surveyor's wheel. But once again I am going overboard. I did go out today, and play nine at a course near by. I managed to beat my best score by 4 stokes, and it was my third time out in as many days at this particular course. I hit 2 fairways and four greens. I also had a first today, back to back birdies. I have been playing for 8 years and have had as many birdies in that time. To get two more of them back to back was awesome! My game keeps coming along. All though my wedges are not as reliable as they once were. I'm blocking them right with shots between 50-100 yards I don't know what I'm doing but some range time should address the problem. If everything keeps trending in this direction i should be able to shoot 85 before the end of this season.

I figured out after 9 I was always on my back foot when I finished. My only swing thought the rest of the round was get on your front foot at impact and stay there. Started to hit quality shots and score. The back side could have been better, two 3 putts and 2 double chips.

Good recovery!   I need to constantly remind myself of not ending up on my back foot.

Started doing pushups and sit ups to help get in better shape.   I am hoping it leads to added distance.

Getting my weight forward has been one of toughest things I have had to do. My hopefully "old" habit was staying back and spinning out. I had one of the most impressive slices in the history of golf. By the Looks of your scores you are going straight to the mid eighties maybe lower once you get that one figured out. Jerk.:-D :-P

Shot a new lowest score today, 82 (41/41).   I hit 8 fairways and 9 greens, which I thought was pretty good for me.   Needless to say, I am psyched about this round..   The thing that stuck out to me today was that I did a much better job of swinging with a good, smooth tempo.

Just out of curiosity, what is the course rating and slope? If they are something like 70/120 you should be around a 10 handicap.

69.8/124 from the tees I play (whites).   I think it needs re-rated though.   They have lengthened one of the par 5's, added a water hazard right in front of another par 5 and made some other changes to the course that, if I understand correctly, would at least warrant discussion about them.

I'm just getting back into the game after not playing since the summer of 2012. I finished that year with an 18 hcp. Right now I'm just trying to get on the course to have a good time and find my swing again. It's been a lot of fun and I don't feel very rusty.

My handicap is correct as of the last revision on the 15th of this month.    I think it is premature to say I have moved on from bogey golfer status just yet though  since this was only one round.  Believe me, I hope this is just the first of many scores in that range but I think I need to back that one up at least a couple of times before I even begin to think about whatever the next step up is.    But I do appreciate the thought!

My biggest struggle is trees on the left side off of the tee box.

Hole #6, a par 5 - bad drive wont kill me (unless I am short of the fairway and have to hit out of the thick rough), because I can rip a 5 wood and still have a shot at GIR (it may be a 160+ yard shot, but doable)

#9 - big tree on left side of forced carry. Unfortunately, a 170 yard carry on a straight/left shot becomes a 220+ carry if I slice - my slices do not carry that far

#11 - 145-160 yard par 3 with a damn tree shortly in front of the womans tee box that I cant seem to miss - and unless I see that ball splash into the water next to it, it generally becomes a lost ball and hitting 3 from the tee

#13 - one our shorter par 4s at 365 yards - play a fade and I roll into the trees on the opposite side of the fairway - which never leaves a good shot into an elevated green with water on the right.

I try telling myself there are no trees, but I seem to hit them for weeks at a time when I can hit a fairly straight tee shot the rest of the round. Last week I escaped them all - which by prior history means I will hit all 4 my next 5 rounds.

Pardon me, but I think a HC of 18 means that on a GOOD round you will score +18. Kinda seems like a Bogey round.

The question was originally asked about him scoring 12 over par on a 124 slope rated course. If he plays this well about 1/4 of the time and the rest  about 18 over, he would be roughly a 10-12 handicap not a bogey (18 handicap).

Yeah, I came to hate certain trees at my home course. A short (280 yards) par 4 hole with its fairway guarded by big trees on bot side has been a thorn on my side. If I hit either tree, ball is very difficult to find as the trees are surrounded by deep grass. For sake of golf pace (don't want to spend 5 minutes looking for my ball), I hit provision, do a cursory look for my 1st ball, and move on. It's a par or triple hole for me.

Yes, but he has posted many rounds in the mid to high 80s as well.

I only noticed the scores with people with roughly the same handicap, and all his scores seemed low for his handicap (which is good, and I assume he will be lowering the handicap soon).

Unfortunately for me, I still have some bad rounds in my queue, and made another bad round. Plus, I declared some of my best rounds as practice rounds. I am joining a local club this year to put in tournament rounds. Then my handicap should be official.

Cool. Playing in tournaments will help sharpen your game. It does for me. I record all the rounds, good or bad. If you don't record "some of" your best rounds, that's sandbagging ;-).

I need to look at this more carefully. Since I was playing really badly on the front 9, I decided not to score the back 9 for score and shot 6 strokes better than the front 9. However, I did not hit any "practice" balls, but just played normally except that I assumed the score would not go into my handicap. Same goes for a few 42s that I scored. The better scores could also have been a results of less "pressure"?

Hopefully this is not sandbagging!
