I am down in south central WI (Brodhead).  Typically play Bass Creek (9-holer in Footville), nicely maintained and close.  Great leagues and friendly people.  I am signed up for five of the WSGA Senior Tour events so will be playing some higher end courses which should be fun and challenging.  Just waiting for this weather to blow through, at least it's Masters weekend so I can get my golf fix from that!

Still working with my left rotator cuff issues. Then to add insult to injury I got an email from Kettle Hills for a free round of golf on my birthday, argh. I just took the orange whip trainer out to the back yard and gave it two easy swings and there is no way that I could swing a club to hit a ball right now.

I’m thinking I’ll bring the 5-iron and shag bag of balls to work next week and spend my lunchtime at Oakwood’s free range to see how the left shoulder does hitting balls. Then mid-week I’ll call the course and ask about single walk-on for my round of golf on a Friday. Might be worth it just to walk 18 holes and practice my short game.

Life goes on.

Local range was closed today so I stopped at a vacant business and whacked a few found golfballs into the woods between the business park and the golf course. Arm/shoulder still hurts and I was hitting way fat on the ball, but I think I’ll manage so I heading to Kettle Hills on Friday. Should be interesting (and ugly) since I didn’t play at all last year apart from some range time, but it will still be good to get back onto a golf course.

Friday was a nice day, Kettle Hills was a little soggy in places but still very playable, the weather was much better than my game but I still had a good time.

I find Troy overrated.  New Richmond is a nice traditional type course.

Here's a list from another thread - it's a little out dated, I could add more - sorry some of these spill over into MN

Top Level Courses:

  • Troy Burne (played it, very nice)
  • StoneRidge (haven't played it, heard it's also top)
  • White Eagle (my favorite)
  • St Croix National (my other favorite - difficult, lots of different challenges, elevation changes)

very nice courses:

  • Siren National
  • Cumberland
  • Turtleback
  • Logger's Trail
  • Prestwick
  • Eagle Valley
  • River Falls
  • Clifton Highlands
  • New Richmond
  • Bristol Ridge
  • River Oaks
  • Oak Marsh
  • Mississippi Highlands

Playable Averageish or easy or simply just a goat/dog track but fun and cheap

  • Pheasant Hills
  • Badlands
  • Amery
  • Clifton Hollow
  • Spring Valley
  • Kilkarney
  • Hammond Town course (9 hole, but good for a quick few)
  • St Croix nat

Missing a could top level courses here...

Maybe add some towns to the courses. It would be helpful

Never a full list - I just haven't gotten that far east yet...or north.  there's a lot, those were just ones I'd gotten to.

You can't really swing a dead cat over there and not hit a bunch of courses.

Hello, just waking up this thread a little.

I did not play one round of golf last year and barely hit any golf balls due to the pandemic and other things.

I'm hoping to get a few rounds in this year.

That's all I've got to say so far for the year 2021.

Hoping that things improve this year.

    • Day 18: 2026.01.20 Continuing work on arm raise during backswing. Starting to feel less weird, especially the slower I go. Looking like a busy week so might be the weekend before I can hit some balls.
    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
    • I would say both are equally not the best for golf. Is it better than nothing, sure.  Golf is an athletic motion. Professional golfers are doing a comprehensive workout routine focusing on strength, power, flexibility, stability. They might include some yoga into the routine. I would put both of them in the recovery bin, not golf enhancement bin.  If you want to increase swing speed, core strength, longevity in golf and life, then lift heavy weights.
