Ive already broken my main goalfor this year a few times: break 90. Another main goal, actually compete (as opposed by just showing up) in the handicap division of my city's tournament, has been rendered unreachable by my better half's school break.

With that in mind, my revised goals for 08:

shoot consistantly in the 80's. This is self explanatory. I will get there by...

play better mental golf. Not every non-par 3 demands a driver off the tee. Im not going to pull off the big hook under the trees from 160 out. Dont go for that pin tucked neatly in the corner sided by a bunker and deep rough. The 15 yard flop over this tall tree is not the shot I am looking for.

Letting my body and club do the work... dont over swing. I was <200 out on that 500 yard par 5 after a fluid, easy swing with a full shoulder turn back and a good follow through... do that on the next hole. Dont try and muscle it up, Tiger.

Practice the short game. putting putting putting putting putting. chipping too.

My goals for the 2008 season from here are pretty simple as I've already broken others. So what's left is...

-Break 80 since I already broke 90

and

-NEVER 3 putt

Shouldn't be too hard right ?

Pretty simple from me....

in 2007, I hit 40+% of fairways and 40+% greens - 2008 is to increase that to 60+%.

An average of 36.2 putts per round needs to get to below 32 - ideally 30.

Finally - improve 30 yards and in.

Goals for 2008

Gain more consistency off of the tee, by which I mean hitting both straight and long and working the ball better. Right now I am averaging, at 16 years of age, 283 off the tee, but my fairways are only about 4-7 per round.

Work the ball more consistently with the irons.

Have more fun.

Right now at my home course I shoot between 82-84...that being said, I really want to get my game consistently in the high 70's by next spring. My other goal for the summer is to start hitting fairways at least 60% of the time. Ultimately I want a handicap low enough to at least qualify for a USGA Mid-Am or Pub Links. Ideally I want to do this by the time I'm 30 so I've got a little time.

My major goal was to drop weight. I was pushing 200 lbs. and am currently just under 180. I am 5"10.5" tall. My goal is to drop to 170 lbs.

Play more consistently by shooting within 5 strokes each round I play.

Chipping has improved
getting up and down has improved
putting has improved
driver control has improved
confidence in my iron and overall game has improved

I feel I am closer to playing more consistent every round.

What I try to do before I play is practice my chipping and full wedges to get my feel and tempo confidence before I go out and play a round

practice at an open field with a shag bag two - four times a week

Last year my driving was really good but my Iron play really poor and right now it seems to be the complete opposite, only started playing last year but last few times of the tee have been terrible, maybe too much magazine articles/tips.

went out last night and played alot better with the driver than last 3/4 rounds.

so far goals are to break 100 which I am doing quite reguarly, Irons and working slowly, putting is going very well which I am delighted about and I am finally confident with the wedge - it'd just be great if all these things went together on one day

A realistic goal for me now is to get my handicap down to 20 by the end of the summer.

Get up and down 70% of the time from within 70 yards. I need to practice my putting, chipping and pitch shots.

Putting I need to lag put from long distances and have a better feel for speed of the putts. I need to make putts within 3-5 feet 90% of the time.

Chipping I need to practice around the green and within 20 feet to control my distance and give myself chances for a chip in or tap in par.

Pitching I need to practice from 70 yards, 60 yards, 50 yards, 40 yards, 30 yards in to get the feel for distance control with my wedges.

Overall the short game needs to improve to play consistenly day in and day out. I should spend 95% of my practice on the short game above and practice 3 days a week.

My goals for the remainder of the season is to get out and play more often and work on my 100 yard and in game. I need to expand the number of approach shots to use for different situations instead of just sticking to what I can do best now.

My goals for this year were simple. Get my game back in action, it has been a long time off. I have the groove and desire (drive) to get it going. With that said next season will be the determining factor! Logging my official first round on the 23 of this month!

New goal: Lose weight in my upper body (arms in particular) and gain weight in my legs and gluteals. My arms swing so fast and are so heavy that it completely pulls me out of balance in my swing. I pull the club in at the last minute to maintain my balance and end up hitting off the toe. Then I fall forward if I try to hold off the intense recoil after the shaft bounces off the back of my neck. Keeping my weight on my heels throughout my swing tends to help also.

Get back to where I was about 10 years ago.

Used to shoot about 10~14 from the whites. Casual golf scoring with the occasional mulligan here maybe once or twice a round. On the courses that I played I think that means about 17 or 18 handicap. My swing is almost there and I have to start concentrating on my short game.

Putting is the hardest for me. Far too many three Putts. I already broke 100 a couple of times this year. Last time I played I shot a 95 from the blues and Not bad considering I probably shot about 115 in the first round that I played this year. I am confident that I will be able to shoot <90 before the summer is out.

Hopefully I will be able to shoot in the mid 80's Just have to concentrate on my short game more instead of the full swing.

Getting up and down from around the green 80% of the time. I am converting my up and downs only 40% of the time and that means I can cut 4 strokes off my score.

98% of my practice time will be spend on chipping around the green. I need to become consistent with distance control.

My goals for the remainder of the 2008 season are:

Break 70 at the executive course (par 60) that I play (shot 79 twice);

Shoot below 85 at a par 70 or higher course (5,500-6,200 yards approx., slope between 115 and 125 are the typical courses I play);

To see my wife break 100 before the year is out (it's her first season).
My Equipment:
Northwestern 3-, 5-, 7- and 9-wood;
Goldwin AVDP Irons (5-10 plus PW);
U.S. Golf 60 degree wedge;
See-More Putter; Bushnell Yardage Pro 1000 Rangefinder;Golflogix GPS.

    • Terry - what a story…I’m about 12 yrs your junior but I do have friends in similar places of life. Like others have said - “go for it”.  The fact that you’re willing to challenge yourself in the midst of dealing with something like Parkinson’s is hero level stuff….looking forward to seeing how this great adventure plays out and make sure to get some of it on video as well.  Make them memories dude!
    • Played nine today. Just went out trying to make a swing that had the feels of what I am working on. I would give it a C- at best. The best swing came on the 9th hole, 220 yard par 3, downwind. I finally made a swing where I felt the pause, and the arms down stuff like I practice. I hit the 4 iron about 215 yards, it rolled just off the back of the green about 20-Ft from the pin.  I might play 10 yards shorter on every iron shot, and make that pause swing, cause I can still hit it about 90-95% the distance.  Distance wedges or 3/4 wedges are going to different. Shanked two of them today trying the pause, arms down stuff. Might spend a bit of time looking at the video on those shots specifically.
    • Day 350: good practice session today. Hit about 25 balls, working slowly on my priority piece. It looks decent in slow motion. Better at full speed but not quite there. Then putted for about an hour. Focused on putts inside 10’ but also did a stack putting session.
    • Two of my golfing Buddie's are left handed. I will play a couple of rounds and use their clubs and see how I do.  Played last Thursday and had the worst game ever. (Playing in really strong winds. (SW @ 20 to 30 mph with > gusts.)  Will let everyone know when I get back out. May not play until Monday.   Thanks everyone, for your encouragement.    Terry
