Lower lofted "super" hybrids vs fairway woods

I picked up an old Nickent 3DX DC 15.5° hybrid off the bay recently, just for kicks. I took it out to the range, and started crushing this thing. Consistently longer than my 4-wood and straighter. Which leads me to these questions, Is this just me, or does anyone else have this experience? Finally, is it worth it to replace my 4-wood with this club?

Does it fit the same need in your bag as the 4-wood?  Do you hit it better?

If so, why wouldn't you make the switch?!

I took out fw woods a while back.  My lowest loft is a seventeen hybrid and it sees extremely limited use.  My next is a 23 hybrid and I love that one.

Should be a no brainer to bag it if it suits you.

I found going to a fw wood off the tee was not bringing significantly greater accuracy than driver so why not just play driver.  

Fw off the deck for me is a no go so there's no point for me to carry them.

Well there is a slight issue, of hitting it 15-20 yards past my 4-wood. It's not exactly driver distance... But its within 15 yards of it. I don't get it.

Sounds like you might put it into your "Sweet 16" mix. Try the Nickent in your bag on courses where that particular club-distance would be beneficial - possibly a linksland course with sparse rough, as opposed to a tight parkland course with plush rough.

Play 36 holes with the Nickent and give us a performance report.;-)

I thought about throwing it in the bag when I go out again some time this week. I think I'll have to see how it performs out of rough, but off of grass at the range it was a rocket. I used to have a 23° 3Dx Genex a few years back that was a magic club... I don't know why I got rid of it, I could hit a bunch of different shots with it... Also @WUTiger if this hybrid has a good amount of offset, I don't really see it at address.

I say if the club works go with it. Just because some manufacturer tells you to play a certain one of their woods doesn't mean it's right. Go with what feels good.

I fully believe Nickent has made some fantastic hybrid clubs.  I had 2 of them back in the day and I hit them so consistent it was hard to take them out.  Clubs just dont last forever and they saw so much use, I ended up having to replace them

      I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

      Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
