Thinking about new irons

I have the bug bad this year. I have upgraded my driver, putter, and wedges, and am pleased so far.

I am currently playing Titleist DCI's that are about 25 years old!! They are in great shape, and the gaps work. I currently carry 5-PW, the 5 is 28* and the PW 48. I carry 20* and 23* hybrids. I have 52 and 56* Vokeys. Obviously, newer irons will have different spreads and I may add another Vokey depending on the lower end of a new set.  I am considering  Titleist AP1 and AP2.

For those of you who have them, what kind of real world differences or help would I expect from the AP1 or AP2? If you have played both, how much difference in forgiveness between the AP1 and AP2?

Reminder... The shaft you have in the iron will have a big influence on how the model performs.

In rough iron fittings, I generally get placed with a GI head and a lighter weight steel or Recoil shaft. (I'm a bit handsy in the swing, and don't need much offset.)

At a recent Titleist-only demo day, the rep showed up with about a dozen swap-out iron shafts in a big carrying sleeve. And, he brought intact irons from the different models with stock shafts, usually with  5-7-9-W or 4-6-8-P mixes.

The rep will take some baseline data from your current irons, and then give you different head-shaft combinations to try. The right shaft is a big help in golf clubs.

Don't forget about the AP3's coming out, they are supposedly a mix between the 1 and 2. I personally gained 10 yards with the AP1's but could have been a combination of new irons and striking the ball better. I can't give you a forgiveness comparo because I have only hit the AP2's. I did hit some JPX 900 irons this weekend that were very nice. You might give them a go too.
