Me now have Titleist 907.D1, which is a high launching driver, which I play with 10.5 Deg Stiff shaft

I launch around 14-15, but with spin of only about 2300 Rpm, which I am verrrry happy with!

I use a 10.5. You really dont see alot of clubs that aren't 10.5.

One of the first posters referenced Tom Wishon, and I read both his books and came away with a good deal of understanding....

That said, I've got a 10.5° Cleveland XL and a SS of around 110. I'm using an Epic stiff in it. I'm trying the same club in a 9.5° with the same shaft.

I'm curious to see if it works out a little better.....

Ping G5 with 10.5 degrees of loft. All my previous drivers were 9.5* of loft. I cant say i lost distance, my 905t with the fuji, stiff shaft was the longest i played mainly because of the low spin i got from it. Untill the G5 10.5* opened my eyes to the match your loft to your swing speed theory. I typically swing between 105-110 with a driver (depending on adreneline). Keep in mind alot of tour players have swing speeds of 115mph and are using 10*-10.5* lofts. Using a 9.5* doesnt make you any more of a man.. and the theory the lower your swing speed the more loft you should be using is in fact.. true. I'll tell you right now i was astounded by the distance i picked up compared to my last driver(s) R580xd and 905t.. (both 9.5 degrees). (around 10+ yards)

I use a King Cobra F-Speed 10.5° at the moment. I've tried a lot of different angled heads, but this seems to work best for me. I have never been a good driver though.

What's amazing is that most driver's are mismarked. Most drivers marked 9.5 are ACTUALLY 10.5 -11. Most 10.5s are 11.5 to 12. I believe the OEMs do this because they believe we would never buy a driver marked 11,12 or 13.

Geeks tend to be pretty accurate though (9.5 = 9-10)

I prefer 9.5 degree although right now I use 10 degree. I think that mere mortal doesn't have a Super consistence swing when we strike the ball that .5 degree will make that much difference.

one of the biggest problems we come across is that most players havent had their equipment - especially drivers actually measured
they trust what it says on the head and out of 400 plus reshafts last year not 1 club was what it stated on the head !

I've tried many lofts. I just seem to hit a 9.5 pretty well. It's probably all mental though.

I use the 9.5 because I normally get a lot of height off the tee - anything higher, and I'd be knocking planes from the sky :)

i currently play the 9.5 superquad, but get a lot of ballooning. I'm thinking of going to a 7.5 or 8.5 titleist d2 driver.

Right now it's 9.5, but I'm going to order another one at 10.5. I like to have a little more carry.

I have been using a 9.5* Taylor R5 but I went and hit some new models and decided on the Callaway Hyper X. Now my dilemna is whether or not to go with the 9* or 10*.

I was a little more consistent with the 10* but the launch angle was close to 20. With the 9* I was around 14 on the launch angle and the distance was only 4-5 more yards.

In my Vector bag:
9* Hyper X stiff

The right loft for any player is influenced by their swing speed, angle of at impact and shaft characteristics (length, flex, kick point).

Davis Love III was playing with a 6° a few years ago (may still); Sergio uses an 11°. I used to hit 7.5 Cobra at a higher launch angle than my current r7 9.5°.

It is hard to get the right fit with the driver due to all the variables.

    • So I am aware that "the committee is allowed to set its own standards of player conduct in a code of conduct adopted as a local rule" (rule 1.2b) I also understand that there are some aspects that are allowed to be entered, and some that are not allowed.  My question specifically is: In which form does this code of conduct need to be available? Is it enough for someone to say "that's part of our code of conduct", or is it a requirement, that the code of conduct is in written form? Also, is there a need that the local rule points to the code of conduct in any way?   For better understanding: I'm playing competition and the next course that we play has a "no smoking policy". I don't have a problem with it, as I don't smoke anyway, but one of my team-mates does, and someone told him "You'll get disqualified if you smoke on the course".   Now I have looked at their local rules and there is no reference to a "code of conduct". I'm not sure if they even have an official "code of conduct" that states that smoking is not allowed.   I fully agree that he SHOULD respect this request from the club, but I am wondering if the club would really be allowed to DQ this player for this, if it's not properly documented in their local rules/code of conduct?  This is an official national amateur tournament, so not just something organized by a club for its members.
    • A few months back I purchased the following swing aid on Amazon ($130). It is solidly made of steel and heavy and stable in use. I use it both at the range and at home. Swing Plate Dual PRO by Jamie Brittain - Swing Analyzer Aid - Fits Standard 8mm Alignment Rod Sticks - Teaching Swing Plane Perfector - Indoor/Outdoor Golfing Practice. This winter I set a goal for myself to improve my backswing/downswing to be more consistent and on plane. I had a two way miss with my approach shots this past golf season. I have a hitting set-up in my garage, but I needed something to provide feedback while swinging the club. I came across the Swing Plate while browsing YouTube.   I set it up with the correct angles for my 8 iron. I started out with just the back rod in place, which prevents me from getting too far inside on the backswing. Started out slow and as I got comfortable increased my swing speed. Now I also came across a YouTube video on building a better backswing and getting more width in the backswing and added that to my practice. That video is here:    This video is a bit wordy since you are basically a fly on the wall as Ian gets a lesson. It took a few replays to be able to get the substance of the instruction. It was well worth the effort. Over the last two weeks I have been able to get out on the course and gauge how successful my practice has been. Overall, my consistency with approach shots has improved greatly. Incorporating the added width in my swing has also added a few yards to all my clubs.  What has your off-season training been like?
