I was at the range yesterday after an 18 hole round. I was getting in some work with my 5-FW. I hit a few stinkers with it during the previous round.

I was expirimenting with the distance I set up from the ball. Changing back and forth from a more flat, and/or more up right swing.

What I found I was doing with these two different swing planes was the more up right swing had a lower ball trejectory, while the flatter swing had the ball flying noticeably higher.

So is this a normal situation for ball flights? I never thought about this being the case before, or if it's even a viable addition to one's bag. I didn't try it with any other club as I only had my 5-FW with me.

Depends on the golfer.

I have been working on this too

I have found that with a flatter swing, I tend to reach around and have more of a trap draw or lower punch like trajectory. I have also found that when I stand further away from the ball I tend to flatten out the swin plane and reach more and toe hook or trap draw or whatever

I have found that when I stand closer to the ball my plane is steeper but I also found that I get more upward trajectory and higher ball flight

Dont know why or what the physics are behind it but it’s something I have been working on and this has been my observation

    • Day 58: night putting session for about an hour. Started with lag putting and ended with putts inside 9’. I need to work on putts from 6-12’, but in a solid spot overall.
    • Birdied a different #6 today (incidentally, also a par-5, but not the same one on which I previously birdied).  Here's the funny thing though:  it's the par-5 that caused me to post my "how do I avoid bogeys?" on par-5s recently.  So I guess I still haven't parred that hole.
    • Day 20, May 24.  Played 18 today, very poor ball driving.  One GIR, and it was a 4-wood from the rough.  Several other instances of hitting a green on a full swing (and at least one full swing motion -- a 50% UW) that wasn't for GIR.   Still shot an 87 and even had a birdie (chip-in).
    • Welcome to TST.  I spent a bit of time in the UK but I had to look up Wagon Wheels.  Don't think I ever saw them.  Had to Google to see.  Couple similar items in US but Google says they are different. 😁
