So as being the blue team MVP for NC, I received the Mevo Flightscope.  I'll have a much more detailed review later, but have a few numbers shown below, as I've only had a couple of chances to play around with it so far due to weather.  But it is pretty damn cool, now I just need to see how to use the data that I have.  This data was on our range, hitting off the mats with Callaway range balls.   Compared to the pga stats, my launch angle is a little higher for the driver and the 7-iron.

How far behind was the Mevo?

With the driver, I found that if you put it at 4', it over-stated swing speed (resulting in a low smash factor), and if you put it at 7' it got them both pretty much dead on.

I only ask because your smash factor averaged out to only 1.4 and your clubhead speed was a bit higher than I'd have guessed you swing.

The 7' difference doesn't seem to be needed with shorter clubs that have a smaller swing radius/arc. Just the driver and other 40"+ clubs.

Interesting. Do you set the distance to 4' or 7' in the app?

Those smash factors of yours are really low, @jsgolfer. I'm getting 1.45+ on the Mevo, and I just played around with a Trackman the other day that had me closer to 1.5.

It was probably a little more than 4 feet, but definitely not seven.  I'll try it at 7' next time I use it.

I'm off tomorrow and it's supposed to be a balmy 41 degrees and sunny, I may have to go over to the course and mess around with it a little.

Set it to the distance you set the Mevo at. In other words, put the Mevo down, measure it, and put that distance into the app. Give or take a foot.

It's likely because his swing speed is coming across as higher than it is. I like @jsgolfer and all… but he doesn't swing 108.

I'm confused between the Ben Crane thing with the stickers and Mevo. For Mevo, you put them on the ball right? Crane it was on the clubhead, no?

Yes, on the ball. But they're not even really needed outdoors.

Ben Crane's system used a camera, not radar, I think.

Yes, you put them on the ball, but at least for me, I didn't need it.  It might be necessary if you're inside hitting into a net, but I haven't done that yet.

I would definitely stick an RFID locator on this thing, like a Chipolo. I wonder if owners do that for the cost as much as a car radars.

Why?

It's never more than seven feet from you. And it might muck with the internal radar or the Bluetooth connectivity.

  • 2 years later...

Just got my mevo,

Liking it so far.

Im guessing a lot of us are stuck with range balls.

I understand they are also all different.

But my question is, has anyone played around with the altitude setting to simulate the carry distance to premium golf balls?

    • No rain while I was out (9am to 11:30am). Fairly pleasant for a late November day in the Mitten.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-25 Did the BAD Challenge and hit a bunch more other little shots. This was one of the closer shots.
    • 70 today. The number looks good but, the course is a par 67 (5,110 yards, 64.3/115.). While the 70 took quite a few good shots to achieve, I am not counting that as shooting my age.
    • Played our town’s executive course this morning. Everything is closing but for now Huron Hills remains open. #13 is shaped like an upside down backwards L (dogleg left). Only 231 yard par 4. Dogleg has a tree guarding the corner and a sand bunker guards the green for those cutting the dogleg. Tiny green. About 10 years ago or more I would try to cut the dogleg. The hole is so short that even if one tangled with the tree or was bunkered, par was likely and birdie was still on the table. Now in my 70’s, I just hit it straight and try to wedge it close for birdie. Today I screwed up and pulled my drive. I wandered around a bit when my ball was not in the bunker. Finally located it on the approach to the green. Almost chipped in and tapped in the 2 inches for birdie. Best unintentional shot of the week. 😲
