Day 128 - May 5, 2020

Full swing work again. This is going to be almost everything that I do.

Hit some balls while @NatalieB was doing her PXG fitting. Feels are still that my arms barely do anything on the backswing.

Erik J. Barzeski —  I knock a ball. It goes in a gopher hole. 🏌🏼‍♂️

Day 67 - Practiced. What else is there to do?😡 Started with the punch drill with a 6 iron, then onto a SW. Filmed a partial SW to check progress. Moved onto a bit of a ladder drill with I go through my preshot and hit one 3/4 shot and one full shot with PW through 3H, then 3W and driver full.

Worked on chips and pitches with PW and 54. Ripped a piece of molding down to 2” and then, using a coping saw, fit it to a corner and trimmed to size. Tacked it in place. Polyurethaned the front side of the pocket door, two coats and let dry. Mowed the lawn, edge trimmed and raked. Vacuumed the hall then mopped it to clean up after the molding work. Cleaned molding in another room to prep for painting. Went for an hour walk with my wife.

Full swing work again. This is going to be almost everything that I do.

Played 18 holes in a scramble with another player. It was quite windy, but we played pretty well.

Day 73: Did some mirror work, mostly checking my path, but also doing a little bit of work on my priority piece of less flow in my swing.

I also forgot to post yesterday, but I did a superspeed session. I haven't missed a day in a while, so it probably won't matter.

Day 151

Did some grip strength experimenting with a 7-iron. Really need a launch monitor or driving range to see ball flight, but think I’m on the right track.

Day 68 - Worked on partial wedges again after feedback from my Evolvr instructor. Setup the shaft a bit higher and press it a bit forward. Contact felt better. I did the COVID towel drill as part of it.

Day 74: Mirror work again today. Worked on less flow in the swing, making sure I wasn't moving too far off the ball from A1 to A1.5

Day 152

Beat from a workout, finally started my shelter in place fitness plan. Started off with some full swing 7-irons but was just too tired to move my body in sync, so did mapping drill slow speed drill. 1/3 swings were hyper focused on backswing, 1/3 were downswing, and 1/3 were entire motion. Managed to get to 30 seconds on one of them.

Day 75: Went to the driving range and hit balls for about 35 minutes. Was not great ... shanking the shit out of the ball. Nothing that normally works to fix that was working. Back to the drawing board there. Also putted for about 10 minutes, just trying to get a feel for the new putter.

Day 131 - May 8, 2020

Full swing work again. This is going to be almost everything that I do.

Some pitching work (the mats were a bit too crowded). I struggle sometimes off mud and want to get better at those types of shots. We have too many of them early in the year.

    • Yep, and this is why the game improvement irons have very wide soles with bounce. It helps when you hit the ball a bit fat. You can get away with it as the club won’t immediately dig into the ground. It glides more.

    • Think about hitting a high shot off hardpan. If the clubface is open and you have lots of bounce in the heel, the leading edge is well off the ground. If you have a grind that has heel relief, then that leading edge sits much more snug to the ground. That gives you more margin for error.  The other thing is that while you might plan not to interact with the ground before the ball (you might also plan to do this), none of us is perfect in our execution and so a little bit of help here and there will make you better. I'm sure Rory didn't mean to blow his pitch across the 17th green yesterday, but he did. If someone as good as him can hit less than perfect shots, then everyone here needs whatever help they can get.
