Noticed on my 917 3 wood that the grooves appear to be chipping. Has anyone else had this? Will it affect the actual grooves and is it worth fixing?

It's just the paint filler in the grooves. It doesn't have any effect on the performance of the club.

The grooves can be repainted.
Most likely the paint will continue to flake as it appears the paint did not properly adhere.
It's common for older equipment to have this occur, but rarely with new clubs.
Contact the store which you made the purchase and ask if it would be covered under warranty.
They may simply replace the club.

Otherwise, you could inquire with any company which refurbish clubs and get a price quote.
Shouldn't cost much. The would remove the old paint and prep the club face properly then repaint the grooves.
Or you could try the repair yourself.

I've used "white out" and then used my fingernail to scrape off the excess from the face.  Worked very well actually.

Isn't it amazing, how with all the money OEM's charge us today, you still have to deal with things like this? How many stories have you heard of people placing custom orders on iron sets that cost well over a $1200, and the lofts and or lie angles is still off a couple degrees? They claim it's within the "tolerance level", Huh? It's a CUSTOM ORDER!!! Oh well. Sad part is, with companies going out of business, and less competition, things will only get worse for the consumer. Welcome to the age of the $500 driver, $300 FW, $275 hybrid, and $1000 irons and $160 SW

    • I’d go with the Titleist if you liked the look of the blades but were suffering with distance. They should be a little more forgiving than a full blade and still retain some workability. Also remember to consider the shafts each have as this will be a big contributor to how they feel. Clemsonfan is right though… get fit or spend a bit of time on a launch monitor 🤙
    • Day 28: 2026.01.30 Managed to make time for a few swings out back today. Need a proper bit of range time this weekend.
    • Day 30, 1/30.  Six minutes this morning hitting a few more range balls, indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Did this before leaving the house.

    • Hi All my New Year’s resolution was to start playing golf again. I’ve caught the bug and am really enjoying hitting balls at a couple of my local ranges.looking forward to getting back out on courses in the spring. Based in the UK and 38 years old, I’ve been playing since I was a kid. Best handicap I’ve held is 2 in my mid 20s. Over the past 10 years I’ve played once or twice a year, sometimes with friends or for work. Could shoot 4-5 over, but just as easily shoot 15-20 over. I’ve moved to South Wales and am very lucky to be near some world class links courses, which gives me even more motivation to get playing again! I will start looking for a local coach in my area when I have more time to invest, but I recalled scouring this forum a few years ago and finding some good tips and advice so wanted to give it a try to see if there were any glaring issues I could fix in the meantime!  A few swings below… one from 1st week Jan and one from today. I have fixed my P1 takeaway to my liking and am now working on what I see as pretty severe early extension & hip thrust. Also terrible hip rotation. I’d like confirmation that this is indeed a problem and and suggestions on a few good drills. Thanks for reading 🙂 I've been Playing Golf for: 30+ years My current handicap index or average score is: 10ish over My typical ball flight is: mid The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: push right with irons, hooks and push with driver!  Videos:
