I am fortunate to play on a very nice, well maintained golf course. Nothing real fancy about it. There are no water falls, or gimmicky holes on it. Just great fairways and greens. Yeah, if you stray from the fairway too far, you will incur some grief due to matured trees lining the fairways, or the occasional water/bunker hazards. Go another way, and you are donating balls into someone's back yards.

I was at the course a little while ago for lunch. The place was hopping with maintenance crews doing their jobs to keep this course in such fine shape. We are in the midst of an early heat wave with afternoon temps in the 105* triple digit range. There was a lot of hand watering going on, as well as sprinklers running. Another guy was doing trim work, while others were riding mowers and others doing their assigned tasks. We locals appreciate the labor these guys put forth for our benefit.

I hope your home course maintenance crews are doing a fine job for you as well. If they are, let them know you appreciate their labor.

Did you share some of your lunch with them, Patch ? ;P

My home courses have a new head pro, so maybe that's the difference. Either way they are doing a much better job keeping up with the mowing this year. So nice not to be losing multiple balls in the near rough like I did last year.

I worked at a private course doing course maintenance every summer during my college years. It was back breaking labor and to this day I always let the crews know they are appreciated. The staff at my current course (Celebration Golf Club) do a great job. Good post as too often they don’t get enough appreciation.
