For the past week I have been unable to hit driver at all. Widening my stance fixed it for a few holes but ultimately went back to the hook, also tried squaring my stance up more after taking this video and no effect. Before the hook I was hitting a slight draw with some height 250-260 and now I’m hitting a hook that goes maybe 170. How can I open the club face a bit more so it’s not pointing towards the sky?

You are set up very open, aimed right at those trees in front of you to the right. It's hard to tell from the angle of the video but it also appears you are picking the club up to quickly in the backswing which is putting you in a bad position at the top. Try pulling the club back away from the ball low & slow for about a foot to start your swing, that should get you in a better position at the top to hit a good shot. I know that is not what you were asking specifically but good luck and i hope i am able to help you.

Carry on my wayward drive

That would be closed, not open.

I would fix a few things first.

1. Practice setting up correctly. You are set up way closed and hit what looks like a pull hook.

2. Work on your posture. You have too much curve in your lower back and your head is not bent over enough.

3. Start a My Swing thread here and post some better camera angles.

Yeah in this clip I was aimed very right with a closed stance, I’ve been trying a squared stance lately after I filmed this but no luck will try the low and slow takeaway tomorrow thanks for the tip.

Yeah I was set up really closed in this, since then I have been using a squared stance but hasn’t helped at all. Will try to put my head down a bit more and get better posture. Thanks!

I made this your swing thread, @ohiogolfer, but you should update it with video from better angles and slow motion when you can.

Ok so after playing today the whole staying down didn’t really help the hook but oddly enough what did was moving my right hand further from my left hand with less overlap. My left hand was extremely strong when I saw it in video so I started to try and change that only made it worse until I moved my right hand. Depending on tempo I hit a nice draw with the new grip.

    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
