I think getting used to playing a hybrid is a really good thing. I use my 20 degree as a utility club mainly and man is this thing clutch when I'm in some rough with a decent distance left to carry. It's just really effective at getting through some heavier thicker grass to still impart a lot of club head speed to the ball. There are a few times when I hit it off of the tee as well when my 3 wood is a bit too much and it can shine there as well. It's honestly really really hard for me to do anything but hit the ball dead straight with this thing.

Guys,

I really appreciate all the help.

I have managed to source a TaylorMade Spider Mallet putter locally, in good condition and only £20. So think I will grab that tomorrow and stick with what I have for now.

Many thanks for all the assistance :) - Tried out the Rapture V2 driver last night, and there is a massive difference when compared to my current driver, hope the irons and hybrid feel the same! :)

That’s a heck of a find on the putter.

Is it good then? I was only going to get it as a stop gap until I could find a decent one cheap!

My current one is unbranded and just can’t judge it well! 🙈

just gone for 9 holes! My god these clubs make a massive difference! Keep sending it to the right with the driver, but not bad apart from that!

Thanks!

Depends on which version exactly as to how great of a pick up but probably still a good find if even one of the cheaper options.

Sounds like someone has a shot pattern :-)

It keeps going right with the driver?  How many holes can you aim at the left fairway or even left rough off the tee and not be in serious trouble if it goes straight and also if you get the curve you typically get?  If you keep sending your driver right, and you mean something like "30 yards right" and not like "100 yards right," that's not a problem.  Yeah, tighter dispersion would be nicer obviously, but you have a good start.

Thanks, managed to stop it travelling as far right by tweaking my grip. Getting a lot more consistent now but still big improvements to be made.

Putter plans have changed, ended up with an Odyssey 2 ball fang! Hopefully I like it, but cant complain considering it was a friends old one!

Opted for the GMax due to age and a physical handicap.  Forgiveness made the game a LOT of fun as I learn to get the best out of these clubs.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
