Grips for Irons

I have a set of Taylor Made burner irons i bought about 4 years ago and I have decided to regrip them with some winn grips. What size diameter should i get? Is .600 the standard core size?

grip size is more of a personal preference and/or hand size thing. Have you ever been sized/fitted for grips before? Are you having them done by a shop or are you doing them yourself? Either way, getting fitted will take the guessing out of the picture then once you're fit for grips, you wont have to change it unless the size of your hands or you develop a preference for a different size.

It depends on what size your hands are or if you have arthritis like me. Check out Golf Pride or Lambkin tour velvet's, I like the way they feel in all conditions as well as being very durable. Winn grips feel good from the outset, but then start to feel kind of squishy and start wearing soon after....bwgolfer

Best to visit your local Pro shop and have yourself fitted . I like the feel of the New Lamkin crossline Shock Absorbing grips . They dampen the sting one feels in mishits and give the user a good feel for the club .

The diameter of the shaft should match the core diameter of the grip.

To determine which grip best fits your hands, measure from your wrist (base of hand) to the end of your longest finger. If the dimension is less than 6.5 inches, use a junior grip; 6.5 to 7 inches, use a ladies grip; 7 to 7.5 inches, use a standard grip; 7.5 to 8 inches, use a mid-size grip and over 8 inches choose a jumbo grip.

I was actually talking about the inside diameter of the grip, to make sure it fits on the shaft correctly. I have a set of taylor made steel burners

You can bring one club out of your burner set to the pro shop . There they can determin what type fits . Now you have the option to let them install it or you can purchase them and install them at home . A lot of shops dont charge to regrip when you purchase the grip from them . Also they have several models of grips from different manufacturers . I am sure the pro would be more than glad to share his 2 cent wisdom .

Just peel back the very bottom of one of your grips. You should see either a 60 or a 58 (I think the 2 most common core diameters) or possibly some other number in the bottom 1/2 inch or so. Then you can either match the core size you currently have or play with it. For example, using .58 grip on a .60 shaft gives you a slightly larger grip.

I use Winn Excels in all of my clubs, except my putter. Fitting will definitely help as others suggested, after that its more about personal perference. I have a relatively light grip and have never seen the wear on mine that others suggested but I could see it happening if you have forearms like popeye and a deathgrip like darth vader.

i had the standard lamkins and they get really slippery when wet. after that I switched to the similar Golf Prides which were an improvement. When I bought my new set I decided to try the Winns and have loved them.

I totally agree with albatroz. Even your local fitter will let you know in 2 mins.

I prefer Lamkin tour wrap cords. With double tape on the bottom half. to follow up my previous comment. i think its all personal preference but i do believe that uniform grips are essential (well important).
