Quote

Since Mizuno irons were number one on Tour back in the 90’s, anchored by Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods, and numerous others who appreciated the buttery forged feel of the MP-14 and MP-29 models, purists have held the brand in exceptionally high esteem.

But when the company introduced the JPX line a few years back, some questioned the look of the matte finish and where the new sticks fit in with the vaunted MP line.

Since then however, the JPX 900 models, most notable the Forged Tour, have been a huge hit with all kinds of players including two-time US Open champ Brooks Koepka.

Now Mizuno is launching a newly revamped JPX 919 line with a traditional look and impressive technologies that make the three new models worth a serious look for players of all handicap levels.

Mizuno has done a great job refining the look of the JPX irons. Tour version probably plays like MP 18 SC but is a little more interesting to look at.

In the 900s, the forged and hot metal had exactly the same lofts.  It’s interesting that now they decided to separate them by 2 degrees in the longer clubs and 1 degree in shorter clubs.

I tested the 900s and it did seem like the Hot Metals got up in the air quite a bit and the Forged not quite as much. So this might actually bring them to perform more similarly.  However, I though that the fantastic launch and spin of the Hot Metals for a near super game improvement club was one of their strong points.  If these lofts bring the flight down some that might not be the best for some players.

I agree.  And I would guess that the Forged play similar to the MMCs.  The lofts will be exactly the same and other head specs are pretty similar.  Should mostly depend on what kind of iron you want to look at or maybe feel.

Between these, the Srixons, and the Pings it might be iron buying season.  They are all in my wheelhouse.

I haven't been able to demo the JPX lineup since the 850 forged, but I tried that set up with KBS C-tapers and they were sweet. Off the eBay I go

Yea the upper end of the JPX lineup is very similar to parts of the MP lineup. Not really sure why they have multiple offerings for the same segment. I've seen comparison tests and where people hit the SC and the 900 tours to similar results, so I imagine the 919 tours will be the same and the forged will be like the MMCs as you said.

No kidding. Been really interested in the Ping i210 and i500 for a while now, and Mizuno announces these. Good thing I can't really demo them anywhere or I might be tempted to buy something.

    • That is a bit hyperbolic, I think. Most despicable is a bit much.  Again, a bit over the top here.  Most athletes are probably closer to being normal human beings than degenerates and avaricious scum.  Just sounds like you want to generalize all athletes because it is easy to do so. Hey, generalizing a subset of a population is entirely a human thing to do.
    • This is so awesome; my two biggest lifetime hero and the biggest superstars of the past 35 years in golf……both turned out to be the two of the most despicable human beings in professional sports… Between this and everyone whoring themselves out for Saudi Arabia… Used to love golf because I thought they were smarter, better people than the other sports. Turns out a huge percentage of them are total degenerates and avaricious scum like every other sport!

    • This isn't going to show you lateral dispersion at all. It's basically just a radar (for speed) launch monitor. It doesn't measure spin or anything like that. Not even launch direction.
