I overdid it on the superglue on the GG tags and removing one was a pain. I poured acetone around the edges, used a utility knife to cut the glue bits off, but some seeped inside and had to use locking pliers to rip the tag off, taking bits of grip with it.

Is it okay to soak the top end of the grip with the tag in acetone? Would that make removal quicker? That won't damage the tag right?

Try using a cup of boiling water mixed with a mild laundry detergent

Why the heck did you use superglue?

Throw it out. Use one of the other tags. And use silicone.

I only use two or three drops but even that's enough to take bits of the grip with it. I've just accepted that as par for the course. I'll be replacing these grips next year anyway and there's a chance I'll be replacing my Game Golf unit as well, so I'll have new tags.

Game Golf made me do it.

And use silicone.

We've had this conversation before. Silicone doesn't work well for poorer ballstrikers. Bad shots send too much vibration up the shaft or something. I've lost like half a dozen tags that were glued on with silicone before I finally switched to super glue.

Oh. They should have just made the tags with a big ball on the end. The screw is too easily defeated.

In my experience it's only been a problem with PURE Grips, but I would prefer a better solution than super glue.

Thanks for all the tips. I used glue on all the tags. If I have spend time to get out the grip bits, then so be it. I'm just concerned water will seep into the tags and ruin the electronics. But guessing it should be okay if it can weather rain.

Another thing is I can't remember if I used super glue or gorilla glue. The dried glue is clear, not amber, so looks like it's super glue.

I have no bloody clue where the heck I put those spare tags. 😞

They have clear Gorilla Glue too. 🙂

TIL ! 😄

It's gonna be a slog. I'm gonna do one a day. At least I don't have to do the big heads - hybrid, 3W, driver.

Any tips on how to remove this? I'm using an exacto knife and pliers.

PSA: use superglue sparingly. I put on a lot because I'm a little rough with my clubs.

Grip is red so hard that see. I'll post one with a black grip.

And soaking in acetone, no love. Once this stuff hardens, acetone isn't going to melt it away and acetone seems to evaporate quickly.

Hey, here's an idea. Next time you replace your grips, before you put in the grip, put on the tag, then drip in superglue from the bottom end? Silicon is too sticky to drip in. But the downside is you can't use the air compressor method to install grip. Yeah, not optimal. Back to the drawing board.

Dremel tool with the small cutting/grinding blade. Use low speed and increase speed as needed.

Clamp the tag on a surface and feather the Dremel lightly.

Just use caution and not be too aggressive.

I don't have a Dremel, I guess an oscillating tool is wrong for the job, was thinking of getting a Dremel though.

Is it worth paying more for a Dremel vs a Wen?

Holy crap @nevets88, way too much glue. Mine are barely half as bad as that.

I'd buy new tags and toss them. You'll save yourself a lot of work and the cost of a new tool.

I already did 3, might as well finish the job manually I guess. The link to buy the tags is broken so will have to e-mail them.

How much are they? Ebay, there's just one set for $62.

A small light weight drill will also work, the cutting/grinding blades are inexpensive.
You will also need the tip attachment which the blades attach to.

You could also use a stone grinder bit made for drills. They work ok, but not as well as the cutting blades.

Of course, a drill. Thanks for that.

Wound up just using a small clamp and an exacto knife. The drill bit I was going to fine tune but this is enough I think.

    • This is an awesome breakdown. most of the bigger tournaments usually have one wave with the advantage, Thank you for the breakdown. If it is soft then it will be a lower final score
    • Over the past 15 years, the winning score has ranged from -10 to -20. Mostly around -13.  Here is Thursday and Friday weather. Saturday and Sunday weather. I think the course will play soft. Plenty of sky cover, lots of rain on Thursday. Fairways and greens will probably stay soft throughout the week.  In terms of tee times, I think Thursday morning and Friday afternoon have the biggest advantage. I am thinking 12 or 13 under
