You're right. Close. Shoulders can be steeper:

Head moved up toward the end of the DL swing, but it was good in the FO swing:

In order to get shoulders steep enough today, I really felt like I had to do it with the takeaway. I guess “this is the way”

I did hit less fat shots. Couldn't get face on video today.

Today’s Session 3-2-20

Goals:

-Steep shoulder turn while keeping head/ neck from twisting.

After doing some mapping at home, plan is to accomplish this by:

1. Stand taller at address, eyes centered on ball.

2. I felt like my head was drifting toward target during takeaway. So-keep head behind ball, turn shoulders “behind head”

3. At P4 it feels like I’m behind ball and I have room to move (my center) forward to not hit ball fat.

I found that I was crunching my left side at takeaway - this got my shoulders going steep and kept my club head even with hands at P2- but also twisted my neck.

Once I stopped crunching my left side...I could not get my shoulders steep enough.

This was by far the steepest shoulder turn I could get while trying to keep head back. (Felt like I crunched left side at P2 on this one.)

The head/neck got off to a better start, but twisted back anyways.

I did like turning behind my head tho, really felt like I could move my center forward from the top.

For next time

1. I’m going to wear a hat and set up with the bill of hat square to ground.

2. Find a feel to ensure steep shoulder turn. My hands and arms can’t be trusted, would much rather feel the steep turn with bigger / core muscles.

3. If I had to choose, I’d pick the steep shoulder turn and forget the neck (for now)

You're being too picky. Everyone's head turns a little bit.

02.jpg01.jpg

I agree that the shoulder tilt is pretty good. I had you at about 31°, so if you want to bend forward 4° or so to get to 35°, that's okay too.

Ok. Good to know. One question...multiple choice lol

  • if I have head tilted “back at address”- then it moves many degrees to “that position”
  • if I have “hat square to ground” at address - it moves a little, but to “that position”
  1. should I just set up with “bill of hat square to ground”?
  2. or does this not matter for me right now since my head goes to the same spot by P2 no matter how my head is positioned at setup?

More #2 than whatever. Just make the neck inline with the rest of the spine.

Stupid question:

Why not preturn the head at address to the position it wants to go at the top of backswing?

Not stupid. I asked the same thing, more or less.

That’s scenario #1 in my confusing question above. “Bill of hat square to ground” is this: imagine I have a hat on.

21EDC54C-0C0D-4094-B921-FEC0AC5D3855.jpeg.e7fa3325700a8955f303da7a1991505b.jpeg

19DCD93D-987E-4BC5-A195-7AD21A36E9FB.jpeg.15cb695ee04668dc1dff62d28c482dea.jpeg

From this position, my head only moves a tad.

I would’ve simply done it. But in the pictures from my previous lesson (where I was put into a better setup position) my head was tilted back. Before I go against a lesson- I double check or try to.

Final note: the more I tilt my left eye toward the ground, the harder it is to see the ball. (Prob since my head is behind ball at setup)

This was easy to accomplish today. All my swing videos looked about the same. Really good session.

Setup felt bad. Kept feeling crooked, also felt ‘tall and squatty’ and un-athletic. Couldn’t see anything wrong with it though. So I just kept swinging.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Today’s session 3-14-20

Goals:

  1. My setup has felt bad lately. I noticed I had all my weight on my back foot at setup. So more weight on front foot at setup. This should let me move into my trail side.
  2. Steep shoulder turn
  3. Move my COM forward in transition (if I can mentally handle it)

Is this too much shoulder tilt at setup? If I can be more level, I can make my head more level.

My shoulders didn’t feel steep at all today, but seemed to be good every time I checked the videos.

That means the main goal of session was success.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Today’s session 3-15-20

Goals:

  1. SETUP: have less shoulder tilt at setup without reverting back to “the bad forward lean setup”
  2. Better P2: take club away with steep, wide shoulder turn. Cannot kink neck either. (Less deep backswing I think)
  3. Have steep shoulder turn, without steep turn, nothing else matters for now.

It's helpful if you actually measure the angles. And look at your spine - there's not much left side bend there.

Usually when your neck starts to look like that, you're compensating for the left shoulder being too high.

    • Played our town’s executive course this morning. Everything is closing but for now Huron Hills remains open. #13 is shaped like an upside down backwards L (dogleg left). Only 231 yard par 4. Dogleg has a tree guarding the corner and a sand bunker guards the green for those cutting the dogleg. Tiny green. About 10 years ago or more I would try to cut the dogleg. The hole is so short that even if one tangled with the tree or was bunkered, par was likely and birdie was still on the table. Now in my 70’s, I just hit it straight and try to wedge it close for birdie. Today I screwed up and pulled my drive. I wandered around a bit when my ball was not in the bunker. Finally located it on the approach to the green. Almost chipped in and tapped in the 2 inches for birdie. Best unintentional shot of the week. 😲
